About Craigieburn
Craigieburn Valley Ski Area, located in the heart of New Zealand's Southern Alps, has achieved cult status amongst NZ's hottest skiers. Steep deep and cheap, the only catch is that you wish you had discovered it before. Wide open powder bowls, steep narrow chutes and when you come off the hill at the end of a big day, kick back in the bar at our cosy alpine lodge. Craigieburn Valley offers something for everyone (except beginners!!).
Three high capacity rope tows service a vertical rise of 503m. Terrain at Craigieburn Valley is varied, exciting and challenging with the infamous 600m vertical descent of Middle basin (which is often compared to a heliskiing experience) accessible by a short traverse from the tow.
Whether hanging out for a week or just a couple of days, a highlight of any visit to Craigieburn Valley is staying in one of the cosy alpine lodges nestled in NZ's scenic native bush. Up to 65 people can be accommodated at any one time in economical 6-person bunkrooms or more private double rooms. A great atmosphere, the good company of fellow skiers, and warming winter fare will ensure your stay at Craigieburn will be one to remember. Please note that bookings are recommended to avoid disappointment.
Craigieburn is world famous for its many hiking and ski-touring opportunities that lie beyond the patrolled area, including quick trips to Castle or North Middle Basin, both of which can be skied out to the lodge or to the access road 15 minutes walk from the access tow. Ski touring options further to North Middle or into Allan's Basin or Broken River are often possible or full day or overnight trips.
