Location
The access road turns off Highway 70 about 20km's after Waiau. It is a 8km long well maintained gravel road which passes through Beach Forest and into alpine terrain. It passes through the lower of the two areas at Mount Lyford, Lake Stella, where there is a car park, and finishes at Terako Basin, where there is another car park and the ski area.

About Mt Lyford
The sunny Terako field, an ideal family field, offers a great learners area as well as challenging runs for intermediate and advanced skiers. The Day Lodge/restaurant and carpark is centrally located.
This sunny northwest facing basin receives its best snow from the south, south-east quarter and most years gets good snow cover, even at its lower altitude.
Mt Lyford facilities include: Terako Day Lodge, Chamois Cafe, Ticket Office, First Aid, Ski & Snowboard Hire. It offers a ski & snowboard scool for all ages and abilites, operated 6 snowgroomers and one half-pipe shredder.
Activities include skiing, snowboarding, tubing, racing, tobogganing, and other fun activities.
Terrain features include: Wild Ride Terrain Park (jumps, kickers, rails), R & R Sport Kaikoura Half Pipe, Quarter Pipe, International Truck Jump, Basin described as a Natural Terrain Park.
Established in 2004 the Wild Ride Terrain Park has been a fantastic addition to Mt Lyford Alpine Resort, which is already described as a natural terrain park.The man made features of the terrain park add a more exciting and challenging aspect to the resort.
The Wild Ride Terrain Park has been set up in its own basin to the right of the Cloudy T-bar. The park has a lead in through a natural terrain shoot with a snow cornice up to the left perfect for wing over's.
