Peak Leaders UK Ltd


This 10 week international course will be based in Queenstown and staying at the 3 star Coronet Alpine Hotel with all food included and hot tub for some aprski relaxation. Technical training will be carried out at Coronet Peak 5 days a week with back country and advanced training at The Remarkables and even a week at Snowpark. As part of the NZ Snow Academy training programme, NZSKI.com are running a course for Peak Leaders, Scotland. Trainees will take the NZSIA/SBINZ accredited snowsports instructor certificate followed by the stage one instructor course. This is a high tempo training programme and applicants should be good intermediate skiers or riders (or better) before applying. There is an optional 2 week multi-activity module in Australia after mountain training finishes. International course dates: 7 July - 14 Sept 2008.

Mt Hutt Ski & Snowboard Instructor Training Programme


Mt Hutt in conjunction with CPIT(Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology) is once again offering its highly reputable Ski and Snowboard courses during the coming season. These courses are some of the best in the country to prepare you for the CSI Exam during the season and then further prepare you for the NZSIA Stage one exam at the end of the season. It is a full time 16 week course with some of the most qualified instructors in New Zealand. Based around the Mt Hutt Ski area and Mt Hutt Methven village, this is your opportunity to be coached by the same instructor all season in a welcoming and fun environment. Interviews commence early May, with the programme commencing in early June.

MECNZ Certificate in Ski Patrol - Tai Poutini Polytechnic


This popular programme is designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge required to enter the Ski Patrol industry. It is held in high regard by the Heads of Ski patrol within New Zealand and includes a four week placement for students with a real ski patrol department. This is where students compound the skills learnt with their tutors and is probably one of the longest and most fun filled job interviews ever.

The programme has successfully run for 15 years and past students have reached senior, supervisory and heads of department positions within New Zealand Ski patrols. The programme also provides a strong foundation for related careers in the outdoors, including alpine and ski guiding, a variety of summer guiding and/or instruction, ambulance officer, and safety management. It contains both Pre- Hospital Emergency Care and Avalanche Stage 1, both entry level qualifications for many outdoor employment options. On successful completion of the programme some students seek work overseas, before returning to apply for work in New Zealand.

Learning takes place in a realistic working environment and includes practical and theory that is based on identified industry needs. It is a big seven months, chock full of learning, growth, discovery and fun.

Based at Temple Basin Ski Area in the Arthurs Pass National Park the New Zealand Snow Safety Institute (NZSSI) runs courses on mountaineering, avalanche & mountain safety. Courses are designed for skiers, snowboarders, climbers and trampers. Programmes range from weekend avalanche awareness courses, mountain skills, Day Backcountry Skills, to 9 day MultiSkill Mountaineering Courses. The NZSSI offers the perfect location at Temple Basin Ski Area with a modern lecture theatre at the ski area lodge offering students the ideal place for lectures and mountain safety theory.
