CANADA!
After spending 17 hours on a plane, I arrived in Calgary, Canada on Monday to -25 degrees Celcius. This was a slight shock to the system after having some particularly warm days before I left Christchurch.
The few days before I left Christchurch were busy with packing the many pairs of skis and numerous items of warm clothing that I needed to take over to Canada. Five bags and a couple of days later, I was ready to jump on the plane to Auckland, then over the Pacific to Los Angeles and finally arriving in Calgary almost a day later.
Luckily the temperatures have warmed up considerably in the past few days, which is great news for me especially as I am breaking in new boots. I was very pleased that I missed the -40 cold snap that Calgarians had been enduring for the week and a half before my arrival. I had a great day at Nakiska yesterday freeskiing Giant Slalom and it was great to be back on the snow and not freezing my butt (or toes) off! I am skiing some slalom later on today at COP (Canada Olympic Park) which will be good.
The plan for the next few days is to train at Nakiska tomorrow (Friday) and to travel to Panorama where the other girls in Natc will be racing in the Miele Cup. I will be making the most of freesking (technical and otherwise) at a different mountain, training some gates and forerunning the races.
That is all for now,
Allie
