Winter is in the south

Winter is in full swing and I have made the move to Wanaka for the season.  The weather has been beautiful; cold, frosty nights and bluebird days. The only problem with clear days is no snow!!

This season I am training with TCRA, Treble Cone Race Academy.  This is a world class program run by Guenther Birgmann.  Guenther is very passionate about ski racing, and this is shown by the caliber of the overseas athletes that train with the program.

I have been training for a week now and it has been great.  This program utilises two ski resorts close to Wanaka - Treble Cone and Snow Park.  Snow Park is great training for the start of the season as the terrain is easier than at Treble Cone so you can have a technical focus and the turnaround on the chair is quick so you get an incredible amount of runs in a session.

This season I have had a change of equipment.  I have stayed with the Atomic brand for skis but I have changed to Lange boots.  This change has been very good for me and I feel like I am making progress.  Training at Snow Park and having so many runs has also been good as it has given me more time to adjust to the new boots.

My first races of the season are in a couple of weeks at Cardrona and Treble Cone.  I am excited to race at TC, as I have raced well there in the past but I will also have the home hill advantage.  This series will also be challenging for me as I would have had less than a month on snow.  It will be a good step moving from training to race mode.

At this moment, all I can wish for is good weather, fast skiing and a clean bill of health!

That's all for now,

Allie
