Wednesday: A high pressure system is currently sitting over the country. Conditions should be fine and sunny today with light-moderate NW winds.
Thursday: Fine and sunny, light winds in Canterbury and North Island, Moderate for Southern Lakes and Mackenzie.
Friday: Fine and sunny, light winds
Saturday: Fine and sunny, light winds.
Sunday: A low pressure system will approach from the north of NZ. It will bring showers falling as snow above 2000m to the North Island. Fine elsewhere with a little cloud possible in Canterbury.
Monday: A similar day to Sunday, fine in the very south, cloudy in Canterbury and showers falling as snow above 2000m in the North Island.
Tuesday: Mainly fine for the South Island. Cloudy with possible showers on the North Island.
Looking Ahead: Weather patterns are starting to improve with the next jet stream surge due next Wednesday over NZ. The positive Southern Annular Mode (SAM) pattern is reversing and I reckon it could dip negative by the end of the month which will mean colder and snowier conditions to the South Island. Signs are definitely looking better for more consistent cold fronts.
