Hello to you all. Its been a hectic few weeks and I have finally found some down time to update everyone on what has been happening.
First of all I need to thank everyone that was involved with my fundraising auction night held at the Lone Star in Wanaka late last month. It was a huge success raising more than $3500 to help with funding my North America travels and also my NZ season later this year.
Also to everyone that attended the event it was great to see you all there. Thank you so much for you generosity and support. Without people like yourselves my dreams of becoming world number 1 wouldn't be possible.
I am now 1 ½ weeks into my 5 week campaign and it has started sweet. After the crazy 28 hours travel to get to Denver with all the normal delays and bad airline food Adam Dooney (Coach and friend) met me at the airport and travelled to Aspen Snowmass. This is my first time to this part of Colorado so was awesome to ride another mountain and see some new things.
The first few days of training was a bit of a struggle with it being at altitude and my first time on snow since October. Luckily it wasn't all just training, managed to get in a sweet powder day with a foot of freshies on the 3rd day.
Last weekend we then headed off to Crested Butte in South West Colorado for a regional event (just to get some more boardercross racing in before the bigger events later in the month).
To up the racing I also entered my age category instead of racing in the adaptive division. Getting to line up against able bodied snowboarders in events is awesome. Beating them is event better. On the first day of racing I posted the second fastest time trial. Then lining up in the finals was stoked to be lined up with some great riders. I was all going well until being taken out in a crash with another rider. Oh well that's racing and was still happy with 4th.
Day 2 of racing also saw me post the second fastest time in time trials. This time I wasn't going to let the same thing happen as the day before. After smashing it out of the start gates I stayed out of any carnage and on a very fast course it left little room for passing. I had to settle for 2nd place missing out on gold by a few meters. Its all good to have my first medal of the season and cant wait for the upcoming world cup events in Canada and America.
We arrived in Whistler BC yesterday and after a few hours on the hill today we headed out to watch some of the Paralympic races and medal ceremonies in the village. Its great to see so much support for disabled athletes. The whole of Whistler is buzzing with the Paralympics on. Can only imagine how it was with the Olympics.
Anyway need to get some dinner sorted and get to bed for training tomorrow. Stay tuned and I promise to keep this updated more often.
