Sunday 19th September saw me hit the 2010 Cardrona Jagermeister Masters at Cardrona Apline Resort. Hoping for some better results than last year and it seams that everything went to plan. Well sort of!
I was more tempted to get out and ride the 40cm of powder than race, but decided to relax and have some fun with all the old buggers! (oh thats right I am one of those now)! Once again the Jagermeister was flowing from the first race at 10am. Giant Slalom. Nothing like a couple of shots in -10 degree temps and windy as hell!
So much fun getting in amongst it, A strong field of riders turned out including Tom Willmot NZ head coach and MB aka Mike Bell NZ development coach along with some of the Cardrona instructors.
Coming in with some average times in the Giant Slalom I placed 8th. Still in the top 10 so stoked on that one.
The Boardercross followed the GS around lunch time.
I laid down a solid 4th fastest qualifying run and claimed second in my heat to move into the semi finals. In my semi final I was squeezed out near the finish just missing out on the final.
We still had to run the small final and after a great start gaining holeshot a small mistake halfway down the course opened the door for Mike Bell to pass me. Still happy with my 6th place finish considering the riders I was up against. And keeping in mind I only have one leg!!!
Prize giving was a good time with yet more Jagermeister flowing and a good chance to yarn about the day. (I still managed to get out for 2 powder runs before the awards. Prob the best 2 runs of my season out in the Arcadia shoots)
So while I didnt podium it was just good times getting out and riding with some legends in NZ snowboarding.
Thanks to Cardrona and Jagermeister for putting on such a great event. See ya again next year.
