Well we made it to Frisco, Colorado last Wednesday after a rather interesting time travelling for the first time with Oliver our 1 year old!
Actually it was ok, he was awesome and slept most of the way, it was us that couldn't sleep!
So we arrived last Wednesday the 11th, and after having the Thursday off to recover from travel I was straight into boardercross training on the Friday for the USASA Rocky Mountain Series SBX race on the Saturday.
Copper Mountain did an awesome job on the boardercross course setup. We had a briefing in the morning from the technical director explaining to all the athletes that this course is setup to FIS world cup standards! Well they weren't lying. The course was crazy technical, but at the same time it was fluid and fast.
After training all day on the Friday it came to race day on the Saturday. After only one day on snow and straight into a race on a course like the one built it was going to be tough to make it into the finals. I had also opted to race in my age group against able bodied riders rather than the adaptive division, just to up the anti.
I felt relaxed on race day and just took it as it came. I ended up posting the 3rd fastest time trial in my age group and the fastest time out of all the adaptive riders. So I was feeling pretty good going into the heats.
I made it through my heats and managed to make it into the final. After a long wait we finally got the call up for our race.
I was quick out of the gates but on the 4th feature I made a small mistake and I quickly fell back into 3rd place. With the level of riding by the others I was not going to make up for my mistake but I did manage to hold on and ended up finishing in 3rd place.
I was pretty stoked to come away with a podium finish for my first race of the season, especially after only have 1 day on snow and racing against able bodied riders.
So since then I have been pretty much riding most days in preparation for X Games next week. Only 7 days to go until our race on the 27th. My riding is feeling good and I can't wait to line up at the biggest action sports event on the planet. Bring it on!
