A historic night!

Back in Nelson and wow its gorgeous up here spring has most definitely sprung.

What  a drive, We went from snow on the ground in Methven, and 50cms at Mt Hutt, to a spectacular snowy Lewis pass, to a verdant, blossom filled Nelson. It was hard to say goodbye to the season, expecially with fresh snow on the hill, but it had to be done. School for Kit, and Sea Kayaking for us, beckons.

But just to report on the last couple of weeks.

Kit, number one son, was planning to sit his Level two ski instructor exams starting Friday the 2 of October. We thought a few days of skiing was in order before the course started so headed down the first week of the holidays. Hutt was really fun, great skiing and lots of Spring Fling fun. The Wombats Village Champs were excellent. It had jumps, SCAREY, Well scarey for the Mums, the kids, and racers handled it easily. Poor Leah (Mum) had a crash while inspecting, and  had and has a Most spectacular bruise as a result.

Friday was the pondskim. The mountains did not cooperate with spring warm weather weather and bikinis were not the order of the day!Rain followed by snow, followed by ............. Sun . Excellent fun was had by all, and some of the skimming of the pond was VERY interesting.. It kept us all amused and then the weather cleared and the last two hours of skiing were amazing!.

Poor Kit this was his first day of the course, by lunch he was soaked (rain) luckily Mum had brought up extra clothing (yah me).

The Brown Pub Seclected as Best country pub in NZ had a great fun Country day, with a tractor pulling competition amongst other things,, and a very interesting ski jump. Skiers or snowboarders pulled by a galloping horse towards a jump and leaping over it and doing tricks Wow, compared by Spud. Great fun.

Each day Mt Hutt just kept delivering more snow.  Our morning car conversation  amongst our three canditates were all progressions, demos, etc etc etc!!! everybody getting more serious as the tension built.

Exam days were Thursday, Friday. Weather forecast was not good. Whew amazingly the weather held on Thursday till the freeski run finshed and then the vis disappeared completely. What timing!

Friday snowing up the hill and almost snowing in Methven, unbelievably the mountain was OPEN. The course director made the right call and the teach was held indoors in Methven.

Then it was just the wait untill the evening prize giving and the results!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was a historic evening, it was the first time, that a  Level two course had had a 100% pass rate. The trainers and course director were incrediably proud, as they should be, they did a great job delivering training for the candidates.

What a dream result.!!!

It is tradition in Methven that when you pass your level two, a naked run round the Blue pub is required!!! Lucy (Kit's older sister) took Kit off to the Blue around ten. It was absolutely tipping with snow. His clothes  were removed and off he went, as he rounded the corner he slipped  (bare feet) hit the ground and did a beautiful skid!!! His hip  today is glorious testimony to acheiving Stage Two.

Now we are home feeling very proud of Number 1 son, but feeling sad that the skiing is nearly over for our hemisphere,

It has been a fantasitic season I think maybe the best !!
