Leaving town at 7.30 was well worthwhile as i managed to fight my way onto the first chair for the best powder day this far at Treble Cone, even though the saddle wasn't open until 1130.
After anxiously watching the clock for a perfect execution to head to the saddle, my heart was wrenched from my chest when i saw the crowd break the patrol barrier prematurely. Fortunately they had trespassed and broken the biggest rule of engagement (never ever leave your wing man), and were penned up at the bottom like a flock of naughty sheep.
When it was finally my turn i dominated the Chinese downhill with a little bit of local knowledge to take the right line to the bottom...only to discover that the 30 other punters who had jumped the gun with a so called ‘false start' were still allowed first chair.
However with a strong set of elbows i still made it onto the fifth, moments later I was powdering my nose down cloud nine.
A great day with awesome skiing was had by all, plenty of stashes of pow found everywhere for those in the know, setting TC up for a wicked August.
Unfortunately my clause expired at 230 and i was back manhandling feet again in the boot fitting station down at Racers Edge until the small hours of the night..... The lifestyle of a shop owner in Wanaka isn't all bad....Will keep you posted - Heli with HMH might be on the cards this week!
