A summary of New Zealand Snowboarder's annual Banked Slalom at Treble Cone... What a fun event!

Friday's complete whiteout conditions were'nt enough to deter 85 snowboarders from compteting in the annual Banked Slalom event put on by New Zealand Snowboarder magazine at Treble Cone. And what a fun event it was!

I'd always heard how much fun people have at this event, but never managed to squeeze it in to my hectic winter schedule. So this year I decided before the season had even began to make sure I was free to join in the fun. It was a record attendance with 85 shredders competing. Prizes were up for grabs from Haris Mountain Heli, Capita snowboards, Huffer clothing, Nixon watches, and Von-Zipper goggles.

The course was set in Superpipe which, if you don't know TC well, is a super-fun natural halfpipe that winds it's way down the Saddle. A little fresh snow overnight was enough to disguise the firm bumps, making the ungroomed course a real challenge. By everyone's second run the course was so rutted that staying on your feet became the main challenge. And the whiteout conditions certainly didn't help. Nevertheless, it was still extremely fun and the 'cheer-everyone-on' atmosphere really made the day.

Both top spots in Open Mens and Womens were taken by local Wanaka pro riders, Will Jackaways and Ju Bray. Read more about the results and check out the video in this news post.

Big thanks to New Zealand Snowboarder and Treble Cone for putting on such a fun event.
