Fact: over 6 meters of snow fell in Niseko this season in December. That's more than a lot of resorts in other parts of the world get in their whole season.
So much snow that it even got to the point of people feeling relieved when the sun came out and the snow stopped falling for a day - for long enough that you didn't have to shovel the driveway again when you got home that afternoon anyway.
There hasn't been quite as much in January, but we've still had more powder days than non-powder days. And now February has arrived, the resort has gone eerily quiet. Feels a little strange.
Chinese New Year is a busy time in Niseko. This year the CNY period fell in the middle of Jan, meaning the work just kept cranking for businesses around here from Christmas onwards. Most of our crew at Niseko Academy (a big Kiwi contingent) worked 7 days a week for the whole month of Jan. Hard yards ey!

Give it a little tweak
February will be a different story. Time to ride and explore; check out some different resorts and get into the backcountry more.
