The last few days in Wanaka have been closed in by crazy fog and it has kept Wanaka frosty, miserable and cold. Luckily, with the ski hills just opening we have been able to escape to the hills and get our well earned vitamin d in.

First things first - Cardrona opened on Friday. Maria wasn't able to make it up cause she was busy working at Base 2 - the newest edition to Helwick Street, Wanaka. I drove up with mum for a fun filled day of no lift lines, sunshine, awesomely maintained terrain park, and fresh turns on captains basin - couldn't have thought of a better day let alone it being the first day of the Cardies season. Wicked!

Following that on Saturday was the opening day for TC. We both couldn't make it up however made up for it on the days that followed. We had an awesome crew and enjoyed the awesome conditions with surprisingly excellent snow cover and no core shots! Pretty much amped on this season - in the last two weeks we've had four "opening days" or similar - and all have been way past our expectations.

Janina wasn't up at opening day for TC because she was busy dancing on the Cardies float as it paraded down the main street of Queenstown for the winter fest. Check out the pic of the float - Janina's pretty amped on it's moving parts., and "techno" music it danced to.. haha. Queenstown along with Wanaka was stuck in the fog that day - and I (Maria) have not heard Janina whinge so much about the horribly cold wet armpit that is Queenstown... that day anyway!

That's all the latest goss for this week - just letting you guys know that there is a Janina Kuzma camp running at Broken River for "Chix on Stix" - and entire weekend dedicated to women free skiing - dates are the 11th and 12th of July. Come out and rip with the crew. For enquiries and any more info visit the website www.brokenriver.com or email Laurie on this address - laurie@brokenriver.co.nz

See you on the flipside.
