Ski operators at Mt Ruapehu have backed down on a decision to charge season pass holders extra to enjoy the extended season.

Significant snowfalls during early October prompted Ruapehu Alpine Lifts (RAL) to move its scheduled closing date from today to November 9 - a period affectionately known as "Snovember".

The skifield on the south-west side of the mountain will stay open for nearly two extra weeks, but season pass holders were initially told they would have to pay extra if they wanted to use their season pass.

However RAL's decision to charge 2014 Season Pass holders $20 for a day pass to ski during the extended period prompted an outcry on social media and the company said based on customer feedback it has now reversed the decision.

Season Passes are also now on sale for 2015 and customers can use their 2015 pass to enjoy Snovember.

Snow is forecast at Turoa throughout the week.
