Turoa is currently cloudy and it will be raining below 1900m by afternoon. (Alpine Meadow is at 1600m.) The forecast looks bleak with rain and strong to gale force northerlies right through Saturday.
Mt Hutt is closed due to gales today. Sorry it's the status quo until the weekend. The snowpack should be fine, it's deep, hard and not too much rain is forecast.
Coronet Peak is open, hat and goggle day today. Expect strong winds and cloud until Friday. Not too bad for the weekend and looking promising for snow from Sunday afternoon.
Manganui opened early but rain delayed play. The rain will continue this week and wash away all of the precious white stuff. Sorry. But they are flexible and will re-open as soon as the temps cool again.
Mt Lyford is due to open on Saturday. The jury is still out on what the forecast is going is.
Dobson is opening on Sunday with a FREE DAY. The forecast looks dry with some wind at this stage so dust of your gear and head to up there!!
FORECAST: Strong to gale northerlies, high freezing levels and rain will spoil early season openings in the north of the country. The effects will be felt less in the east and the south. A low will form in the Tasman tomorrow and pass to the south of the country producing NW winds and unsettled conditions. Another low will move slowly across the Tasman on Thursday & Friday. The result of this will be an unsettled Northerly flow over the country all week.
