Is it just me or does anyone else think that the nation's press is trying to get us down.

First though here's the conditions...

Turoa is looking great today with fine weather above the cloud and good snow. I would say that the best conditions are still definitely on-piste at this stage. Remember that the Ohakune Mardi Gras is this Saturday June 27th, so plan your trip because it is definitely one not to be missed.

Tukino is open again with a light covering on the lower slopes. Moderate wind and some cloud on the upper slopes will hold the opening of the top rope this morning. More snow is forecast for tomorrow.

Lyford is open closed today! The forecast looks like more snow tomorrow.

Mt Hutt Clear skies, light breezes and -3 degrees in the basin at 6am. Why would you go anywhere else. Mt Hutt is consistently having the been weather and riding conditions in the country right now. Expect the snowmaking to be operating all day today. Fine conditions will prevail for the early part of the week so get the gear out and get up there. Take care on the roads, the roads will be icy in the morning, especially on bridges.

Dobson's has good natural coverage and their snowmaking is hosing out the snow. They are open weekends only until the 4th of July when they open up full time.

Coronet Peak looking great again this morning. Love their webcam shots. Check out the moon at 7:15am. They have been pumping out the white gold. Their white room is looking superb again after the spring condition over the last week. The forecast for the week ahead looks good until Thursday. The Queenstown Winter Festival starts on Friday. Saturday then looks OK before the real storm begins.

The Remarkables had a great opening day yesterday!! The mountain has over half a metre of snow with great snowmaking conditions forecast right through the first half of next week. Remember, the Queenstown Winter Festival starts on Friday.

FORECAST: An anticyclone situated to the east of NZ will stay put but weaken. Expect groundhog day weather to continue for the next couple of days. The next cold front will move onto the west of the country about Thursday or Friday. Saturday doesn't look back to the Queenstown Winter Fest and the Ohakune Mardi Gras. If the long turn forecast rings true, then batten down the hatches in a week's time because there is a very nasty storm brewing in the north Tasman Sea.

Today's headlines included; "Surge in Violence during depression" and "Tamiflu Resistant Swine Flu".  What the... !!  The most intelligent amoung us just wave a hand and say "Whatever, don't believe everything you read."  But the masses do, and the maases are down right now, NZHerald, Press, TVNZ stop kicking them!!  Do you want to see scenes remanisant of Iran right now?

OK, so cocks loose at the All-Blacks game was funny, good on ya TVNZ, but it's not in the papers.  And we won the games, good work Baby-Blacks!  I wanted to see a funny shot of this ellusive chook evading would be captors before last weekends game emblazonned across the front of the newpaper this morning.  It would have put me in a good mood.

We need more fun in our news don't we.  Whether it is slap stick or complex cartoons, we need of all times, now to poke fun at ourselves and others and have a bloody good laugh.
