What happens when you mix 20 tonnes of snow in downtown CHCH with 3000 snow fueled fans and some awesome talent...

The 3rd Annual Skullcandy Rail Jam went off on Saturday 8th August transforming the urban arena of SOL square into a frenzy of snowboarders throwing tricks for a chance to drive away in a new car.

Last year saw horizontal sleet and negative temperatures not to mention the snow truck went off the road and the rail broke.
This year the whole thing went exactly to plan. 20 tonnes of snow strategically landed right in our beautiful city - the rail was perfect, the riders were stoked and first prize was nothing short of inspirational -a near new Subaru Legacy station wagon bulging with sponsors goodies from Absolute, Export 33, Jagermeister, Von Zipper and XBox.

With over 3000 throughout the night the place was buzzing full of energy thanks to the lyrical talent of MC Mana and tunes from Sunshine Sound System and DJ Insomniac. Spot prizes were spilling out everywhere like it was Christmas and the promo girls were in full force.
Half time entertainment saw a brave fire juggler and a guy swallow a sword while trying to dodge snowballs from the crowd.

Snowboarders came from as far a Queenstown and Wanaka with a strong presence from the Cheapskates, Quest, Mt Hutt & Porters teams aswell as reps from Stepchild snowboards.
These invited riders joined 10 wildcards picked from a jam session.

The result was a showdown of the top 8 snowboarders leaving 23 y/o Liam Ryan from Wanaka on top.
"What a cool venue with great atmosphere, the crowd made alot of noise and kept everyone pumped", said Liam after receiving the golden key to his new car.

Second place went to Methven local Andy Collins & Aussie kid Jye Kearney took 3rd with some slick tricks he smuggled abroad.

Best woman went to Christy Prior with consistant tricks all night and second place to Georgie Allen representing the CUBA massive.

Top grom was 15 y/o Burton and Cheapskates rider, Jess Comber with some solid 5050s with brother Ben Comber charging the whole night also.

Overall an epic night of thrills and spills. A huge thanks to all the hands that helped make it happen.
