Peak to Powderkeg
Peak to Powderkeg 09
Don't miss the internationally acclaimed (in New Zealand) Peak to Powderkeg Race this October 10th in the snow capital of the North Island, Ohakune.
Take part individually, as teams of 3 (at least one female) or enter the U16 youth category and test yourself to the extreme in this multi-disciplined event.
Stage 1 sees competitors ski or board from the top of the high noon chair on the Turoa ski field of Mt Ruapehu to the base.
Stage 2 involves a change into running shoes to race 5kms from the base of the Ski Field to the transition area to embark upon Stage 3 which involves jumping onto bikes and cycling down the remaining 12kms of the perilous mountain road. Pulling into the Powderkeg Car-park arguably the most challenging stage awaits.
Stage 4 demands that competitors scull a cold refreshing beer (lemonade for the youths) before officially completing the race. Easier said than done!
At the end of the race all competitors, support crew and spectators can enjoy a BBQ dinner on the deck of the Matterhorn Restaurant before the prize-giving ceremony begins.
Combine your sense of adventure, your athleticism and your taste for alcohol in the event of the season!
