There's been plenty of talk about the recent snowfall across the country, even extending to the large hailstorm at Papamoa leading to 10cm of frozen water deposited right down to sea-level.

There has been lines shredded down in the South Island under bluebird conditions. But meanwhile Mt. Ruapehu continues to be battered. At last report there was a good foot of snow at the Turoa carpark and this photo from Matt Gordon shows the covering across Turoa's slopes.

While "they" say "Snow in May doesn't stay" the extended forecast for the next while brings more cold conditions and further snow for Mt. Ruapehu. So perhaps this year the "Old Wives" will have to bite their tongues.
