Well the weather gods have smiled on the weekend warriors and given them three glorious days at Mt Ruapehu.

After last season when we had nine Saturdays in a row closed it was an awesome site to see so many folk snow weary with big grins trudging through après swapping yarns and commenting on the awesome job Turoa had done that day with so many people on the hill.

I hit Turoa with a head full of enthusiasm as I had to MC the Jib Nationals and along for the ride with a swag full of great tunes was Riki Gooch from Fat Freddies and J Pilla from the Roots Foundation.

This is the tenth year of a fantastic event borne out of a closed day at Whakapapa during the legendary Spring Fest. I remember Rion from Wanaka parking his 4wd outside customer services urging the rest of the riders to do their darndest and they all gave their best.

The MC was inside on the customer service microphone calling the event while Mike Smith Kim Mananui were outside frantically giving out prizes and relaying placings. Aaah does that make me old or do I just have a good memory.

There was just as much enthusiasm on Saturday with a superb set up of rails and boxes to give the riders all the incentive they needed. Cash, awesome spot prizes and a great audience outside the Giant café meant the day was a winner. Go to mtruapehu.com for results and fotos.

Till next time.........
