Competition closes 04/07/2012

Not for the faint hearted, the brand new cameras offer leading compact camera technology in a tough little package. Thanks to a heavily reinforced design, the FT20 is waterproof to a depth of 5m, shock proof up to 1.5m and freeze proof to temperatures as low as –10 degrees Celsius.

You don’t have to be the biggest to be the toughest. Panasonic have proven this with the launch of their new LUMIX Stylish Tough (LUMIX DMC-FT20) and LUMIX Ultimate Tough (LUMIX DMC-FT4), two cameras designed for those with adventure pumping through their veins.

With a more robust look and feel, the FT20’s big brother, the LUMIX Ultimate Tough takes things up a notch; shock proof up to 2m and waterproof to a depth of 12m.

“The LUMIX Stylish Tough and Ultimate Tough cameras combine outstanding toughness and durability with high-quality, high-speed imaging for fantastic photography in the most extreme situations,” says Panasonic Product Manager, Ben Watson.

“The new tough cameras allow adventurous types to capture their world, be it under water or in sub-zero temperatures, as never before. The high-end functions and the best LEICA lens technology make this possible in a tough yet compact package that really is clever made easy.”

The Stylish Tough features a slim-line look unlike most tough outdoor cameras, making it just as comfortable on the ski slopes as out at dinner with friends. The Ultimate Tough steps things up with a rugged housing, designed to handle the toughest conditions.

For those with a love of exploring the great outdoors, the FT4 has an integrated GPS function that uses internal data to provide real-time information while on location. The Ultimate Tough has further features that would make Bear Grylls green with envy; including a compass, altimeter and barometer to show and record altitude, barometric pressure, and underwater depth, and orientation data.

Both cameras feature a wide-angle LEICA DC VARIO-ELMAR lens system with either 4x (FT20) or 4.6x (FT4) optical zoom. Despite the astonishing technology and features, the lens group remains surprisingly slim having little effect on the weight or width of the camera. The different aspherical lenses and surfaces allow the Stylish Tough and Ultimate Tough models to deliver a versatile zoom range from ultra-wide to telephoto and stunning clarity with minimum distortion. The optical zoom enables you to zoom in four times closer than the human eye and can be extended even further using the digital equivalent of the intelligent zoom.

The Stylish Tough and Ultimate Tough models also feature the all new Panorama Shot shooting mode. The Panorama Shot makes it possible to capture dramatic horizontal or panoramic images by taking consecutive shots then overlaying the images, automatically piecing together your image, perfect for capturing breathtaking views, whether from mountain top or cliff face.

“The LUMIX Stylish Tough and Ultimate Tough cameras are certain to provide stunning images from the most extreme activities. In its simplest form it will deliver an enviable quality and blur free photos. But spend some time engaging the vast array of functions and the results will be impressive,” comments Ben Watson.

And the added extras don’t stop once you’ve captured a great image. Both the Stylish Tough and Ultimate Tough also feature an Auto Retouch function that adjusts brightness and contrast automatically to enhance your image.

The LUMIX Stylish Tough and Ultimate Tough cameras will be available in consumer electronics retailers and photographic specialists from April. The Stylish Tough FT20 has an RRP of $349.99 and is available in four colours; red, blue, orange and black. The Ultimate Tough FT4 has an RRP of $649.99 and is available in three colours; black, blue and orange.
