Canterbury Secondary Schools Slopestyle

When : 11 a.m. Tue, 19th - Thu, 21st August 2014
Where : Porters

For the second time, Porters Ski Area will be hosting the Canterbury Secondary Schools Slopestyle ski and snowboard event, sanctioned by Canterbury School Sport. A unique event in the Canterbury area, the event is designed to give young Cantabrians an opportunity to compete in a regional sanctioned slopestyle event, the prestige of achieving a result, and as a build up to the South island event at Cardrona in September.

WHO IS THE EVENT FOR?

It is open to all Canterbury/West Coast secondary school students, year 9-13, and will feature several age categories as well as an ‘open' premier category. Skiers and snowboarders must be familiar with freestyle or slopestyle skiing or riding, have experience riding in terrain parks completing jumps, spins, rails, boxes etc. We'd like to encourage also those experienced in riding terrain parks, but who may not have competed before. This will be a good opportunity for them to compete with their peers.

WHERE WILL THE EVENT TAKE PLACE?

Taking place at Porters Ski Area, the event will use the Porters Community Park (terrain park) as the primary venue. This terrain park is maintained and operated by Porters Ski Area and designed for beginner and intermediate terrain park users. There will be a range of jumps (varying sizes), rails, boxes, and other features available to competitors during the competition.

FORMAT?

The event will be a standard slopestyle format, with a set number of runs for each competitor (likely to be 3, depending on participation numbers) to be judged by a panel of judges, based on overall impression. Judges scores will be averaged out (across judges), and the athlete will drop one score to have a total of the best 2 runs.

WHEN?

Tuesday 20th August, with a postponement day of Thursday 22nd August. Final registration and bib collection from 8am at Porters Ticket Office. Competitors will have the opportunity to inspect the terrain park from 9-9.30am, and a period of ‘practice' time will be given from 9.30am. The event will commence thereafter, and continue untill complete at some point in the afternoon. The event will conclude with prizegiving at Porters Cafe from 3.45pm.

REGISTRATION?

This will be available via the Canterbury School Sport event registration platform, enternow.co.nz. The cost for the event will be $45 per student [$25 entry fee and $20 lift pass]. Those with Porters or CHILL season pass will pay only the $25 entry. Further registration information will be made available shortly via Canterbury School Sport.
