Looking for ride Welly to Ruapehu
Looking for rides when ever possible from the Capital to Ruapehu. Don't have a car but can split gas $$. Mainly weekends but could be a bit flexible and work in some sick days....
I have a car and am planning a few weekend trips this season.

I've got a car and plan to do a fair few weekends - be keen to grab a passenger (or a lift) to cut that $$$$$$ down to $$$.
Should be doing a few trips during the season and happy to give anyone a ride in exchange for gas $$$
chur a few others from Welly I'm always keen I head up quite often mainly week days but the odd week-end. Got a car or would be keen to jump in with someone else

Yip, ofen go from Welly to Mt. Weeks and ends, have car. 30 trips last year hope for more this year, need passengers.

Looks like a lot of competition for the car pool market this year.
Well with the price of gas I guess people don't want 4 empty seats going up. A full car would make the gas prices bearable.

I'll be hoping to do a number of weekend or 3 day trips this year, and a few week long trips. Overall destination is usually Turangi, but happy to take people nearby to save on costs. Also have enough room to take gear as well.
Maybe we can keep this thread running throughout the season and people just throw up when they are wanting to go or are going?

Maybe because all the Jaffas head to snow planet instead. It is a bit harsh up Ruapehu being outdoors n all. Them chapped lips are horrid

Got a season pass and a new board so I'm keen to go up as much as possible this season, preferably weekends but can be flexible sometimes, will happily give gas monies.

Last year I could do a weekend for around $100 with two trips up the hill, probably $150 or so now.
Bout $150 sounds about right, hopefully a lil less with responsible, economical minded driving. Got my whole season locked in first trip will be between 11th July and 15th or on any one or two or three of those days in between dependent on snow/weather. Organised I am

Heading to Turangi vicinty (OPC) so would normally go down the Desert Road but could probably call past Kune if needs be.

Yeah that gas is just bit pricey, had one very full car last week but somehow got 4 people and gear in my little 323. Solo trip would be mega expensive. Not to bad at $35 each for the weekend.

I've got time off work from the 12th Aug till about the 8th Sept so I'll be heading up to the mountain quite a few times over that period.
No fixed dates yet but will most likely be mid-week trips to avoid the weekend crowds. Probably going up for 2-4 days at a time. No accommodation sorted yet and nobody in the car yet either (4x4 with 7 seats).
I'm also hoping to do the Whakapapa-Turosa traverse or some other similar back-country trip at some point as well if anyone is up for that.

Hi all,
I'm looking at going up any weds-fri (I work weekends) this season (I work weekends). Have own car which is 2.0l so cheap on gas, but it's a bit of a beater, being a student runabout and all, so I'm also keen to pitch in for gas and get a lift myself. I normally stay in Ohakune or National Park so not really that close to Turangi. Do you have a place in Turangi or is it much cheaper?

Got a place I stay at in Turangi, not sure what accommodation rates are like there. I think there's a backpackers place that does something like $25 a night for a bunk or $45 a night for a single room.
I'm heading up Friday night and coming back Monday evening as well this week. Will have room in the car for Monday heading from Ohakune to Wellington if anyone is interested

$25 p/n is a pretty good deal but then it is still more than the crossing which you can get for $21 p/n if you have a season pass. And there is also camping when I'm feeling cheap, not actually that bad if you have a good sleeping bag.

Just me and my 9 year old -got spare seat/s if anyone wants a ride and share gas etc. Probably listen to bad music and stop at bulls for some grub -going through to near whakapapa. Coming back either Saturday night or more likely Sunday depending on weather and care-factor.
