Not a girl, and know many girls who can ride better than me! Think I'll give it a go though. Got a few mates who've also turned 30 lately, so we might all have a go together. Be war in the car back though if we all end up in the same heat! ;-) Just need to get Red Bull as a co-sponsor and its jaegerbombs all round!
Just need to convince the wife that its a good idea for me to go and leave her with the 6 month old baby... :-S
I didn't realise you were missing the master's Rob! Just don't be too hungover in the morning, there's be a couple of hot girls waiting for you at the airport ![]()
oops sorry DNR ahh well all good fun.
CCS yep but may go down if weather is good but need to be back in time etc for Bernies. Masters can take a while to get through.

great snow at turoa on trail all week, not many up there today and it was good to have all that space ..
sounds perfect for the start of the uni holidays.
Yeah Wed looks like a good one for snow.........hopefully we'll get a decent clear spell just after....

says mixed..heres hoping!
Weather forecast for today looked crap but was unlimited viz at turoa..who knows!
--------------------------------
metservice is forecasting lower freezing levels..all good..please bring back winter..
if you do decide to come to the mtn this weekend it will not be crowded..
Man either things changed a lot in the last 3 hours or they have no idea what it is going to do up there compare this with the above forecast I'll take the other forecast thanks!... [metservice.co.nz]
compare with surf reports for east coast..one says NE 45 knots, then strong NE tomorrow. Another says WNW going WSW. Another says NW. I can tell u from observation that it is E, and getting quite light at present..
who know!
Im going down anyway so hopefully will be uncrowded and not windy enough to affect lifts.
--------------------------------
The forecast today was a bit off putting but it turned out to be a good morning and day mainly. Crowds? What crowds the place felt like a ghost town and yes the words spring like came up a few times even saw it in the snow report. So here we are 14th August talking about spring conditions already.
Unless we get some decent snow fall and colder temperatures back again this season will fizzle quickly, from my own point of view we have noticed bookings in the surrounding area down especially mid week. Lots of people coming they just are not spending beyond the ski area essentials.
Looks pretty wet on the cams.........hope mid week snow delivers......

this is the normal human reviewed report Ruapehu [metservice.co.nz]
I think I like the model prediction for 43cm of snow Sunday morning ![]()
If only 43cm snow tommorow would be true
I could not believe how warm it was up at whakapapa today and even the wind was warm for a mid August day. Considering how cold May was and the snow that came and went I am hoping this warm weather buggas off soon. This week has had some good days mid week and reasonable conditions. Just need more snow now thanks.
43cm. If they get that in the next 24 hours I will eat my hand or something.

By nzv8fan
Pretty safe bet you still have your hand after the warm night last night. Looks like Whakapapa lost 4cm in the last 24 hours which incidentally I have noticed TV3 has been a bit generous on the snowbases.
Talking to a snowmaker last night he said the average freezing level for the year has been around the 2000m point. Which is a very high average given the low level snows back in May/June.
Perfect conditions as I write so up we go again
Well as said already........its been wet with 0cm snow(I dont know where these guys got 43cm!). Anyway.....I'll wager my kilt on snow for Wednesday.
--------------------------------
"If you see a Scotsman with a cricket bat....he's not off to play cricket...."
haha perfect conditions after 24hour of rain. Loving it
Perfect weather 03snowman as in calm and no wind. Obviously it will not be knee deep powder. Just have to see what the Rain bamage was when get on the slopes.
McAulay read Robs post further up! Looks like they switched the Rain and snow figures aroiund, does that make it clearer where the 43cm came from?
Anyone go up in the weekend? Whats the base like after all the rain?
was at whakapapa today. Not too badly affected..some more rocks on west ridge, some rocks betwwen knoll and waterfall t bar. Still top to bottom. Bit of snow falling up top.
Wasnt so bad up there, better than i thought it would be..very uncrowded. And some nice soft snow in places.

Well my ski seasaon is over. What the RAL medical centre doctor and the physio said was an ankle sprain is actually a break (no wonder it hurt so much!). Now sporting a lovely red cast for the next 6 weeks. Was hoping that I might get some sping skiing in after the cast comes off but looks like it is spring now with a rapidlly dwindling snowbase
Least I managed to get out ont he skins - even if it was just the Rockie.
Japan and/or Canada in Feb definate now

Hey Jude, don't make it bad. Take a bad ankle and make it better...

Oh,nooooo....
Same thing happened to me a couple of seasons back. Couldn't believe it when the Radiologist informed me it was broken.
Northern hemi might be makeable though. Just allow enough time for rehab. You'll be amazed at how much muscle loss occurs over 6 weeks.
--------------------------------
Wait For The Ricochet
Oh no - here was me thinking I might be able to ski mid-late October. Good thing it's a clean break with no apparent complicating factors (apart from walking around on it for a week). Suppose it isn't as bad as the torn ACL I had (which needed two reconstructions). But at least I did that at the end of the season and had summer to recover. Hopefully I'll be OK to inline skate/hockey over summer.

reine de l'hiver
Jude I've heard that a break can be faster to heal than a bad sprain, so here's hoping.

Thanks for the glimmer of hope Ethel - I'm feeling pretty bummed out. Fingers crossed you are right. Will give me something to work towards although it's just a waiting game while you are in plaster with all your hard-earned ski-fitness slipping away ![]()

You can exercise your quads as much as you like, it's muscle mass below the knee that will wane a bit.
--------------------------------
One good turn deserves another...
Thanks Edgehi. Least the weight of the cast provides a bit of resistance for the quad and hammie exercises. There is stuff I can do, I just need to get out of this black hole of despair and do it! Think late spring skiing...think Japan/Canada....

There goes the snow to below the lifts on Wed according to the updated met forecast! Jumped up from 1200 to 1600
hey jude i did my collarbone early oct last year, like u i made up for it by heading north. Do it, u wont regret it
The forescast is constantly changing a sign of another unstable weather system. When people start using the words spring conditions in mid August it is not a good sign, suddenly the brain cells of the coastal folk turn towards the beaches and summer pursuits.
Need a good long southerly to front up to Auckland to remind people that its still winter for August its very quite, not that you would notice if you were a weekend bluebird warrior.
Reports from the southern ski areas paint a very differant picture with that aussie invasion I am guessing?
Talking of Cafes there has been some silence of the plan to build a cafe beside the Highnoon Express at Turoa, was that part of the 3 year plan as well?
Still on the cards at this stage from what I know of.
Why do u want aucklanderrs coming down..crowded as it is!

Thanks Snowman03. Went to Japan a couple of years ago (Furano)and really enjoyed it although the terrain was a bit tame. Might get back country this time with Cam from Gordon's in Wellington who guides up there or head to Habuka. And I might blow the budget (ie slap it on the mortgage) and do Japan AND Canada (Whister?).
