Usually it's today? No word so far though.
Correction: Yes, they're on sale now.
It's a sign! Winter only a few months away now.
the nagging begins - to get my mates to get off their chuff and buy a pass, so they don't complain of the day rates later on ![]()

Perhaps your mates are just not die hards like you otherwise they would have the
same level of motivation.
perhaps ...

Err, yeah. Because obviously season pass == die hard...
Does this mean you're NOT getting one for Mt. Hutt this year? Presumably due to worrying that an earthquake will level the southern alps at any moment.

Sweet! That wasn't there earlier!
Hmmm. I wonder what I could sell to win the Platinum pass.
Maybe my first born?
I see you're not allowed to sell your Mother In Law....
(Probably not much of a market for them anyway)

That could work!
What about Rob's snowboard collection?
I could sell that. Rules don't say anything about it having to be your own stuff.

What did we pay in November Gurutasker. I'm sure it was heaps less that $415? and what is a platinum pass?
--------------------------------
"If in doubt, straighten 'em out"
Credit card bill shows $355.. and I didn't even have the locked in prices as I didn't get Snowvember the year before
(Was possibly going in to eye surgery though)
$415 is a heck of a lot more! Although still cheaper than the southern fields ![]()

Platinum pass is (unconfirmed) some privilege goodness, ?valet? parking (I'm sure as hell not letting some little grotter near the keys to my subey, much less my mate's audi) and 4 half days of 'guided' skiing (read: you go ski with some dude and get to skip chairlift lines)
*edited 01 Apr 2011 17:18
still unconfirmed, but I think it is as rozboon says, valet parking (not exactly sure what this means), four hosted afternoon's skiing (with queue privileges) and a backcountry guided tour. Apparently on sale to life pass holders first, then opening to season pass holders after, if not sold out.
On another note, pretty sure that the $355 was less than the previous snovember locked in price anyway, so at the end of the day, you haven't been charged more than them anyway Gurutasker
Valet Parking...Get fu*ked. Guided skiing...Mountain hosts.
Now how much are one of these 'platinum' passes?

Well it looks like you guys don't have to much competition at the moment.
Hey CCS - your friend? Ask her if it includes a ride on the yacht in the background. Thats something I'd be allowed to bid on!
Rumour: What I heard was about the high noon express not being given consent to carry out servicing? ANd this would delay it at least? Doesn't sound right to me though- (but I know nothing)> anyone confirm or heard anything about this?

It's pretty big. Running the old rally stage basically.. I think they are trying to go as big as Race to the Sky used to be in the south.

Just got first snow alert from snow-forecast... Tuesday is going to be cold. Forecast to be 13 in Wellington too..

Winter is always coming!
I've secured my season pass in November last year
Btw, I've been to Whakas today no sign of snow but it should be coming soon.
No snow at present. None since the last dusting a month ago but the Glacier at Turoa has some cover.
The forcast for this week looks good. Hopefully paint out some of this brown. It's getting boring!

"If in doubt, straighten 'em out"
1700m freezing level should help to cool the rocks down after the summer heat, doubt there will be much more than a dusting of snow though. Rain with 3000m freezing level then rail clearing as the freezing level goes down.
Still early days though. What a difference it makes when you find a fun summer sport, this off season has gone so much faster than last.

Dont know what your getting excited about it wont last and is to soon to stay around. Remember the saying snow in May wont stay well its only just into April!
Then again if you want snow now you better hope it does clear so the foundations can be finished pooring and the towers put in on the High Noon.
SD the rumour you heard was part of an April fools prank you may just find, lot of rumours going around at the moment as usual. Also a lot of questioning of the Pass prices.
btw, last year it snowed on the 7th April on Ruapehu and was gone by the 11th according to the photos I have.
nothing wrong with a bit of preseason excitement jsims

Who said anything about it it staying around? High Noon aint my concern. It will most propably be a shambles of a start so why get excited about it. Hardcore dumps from mid-may getting Whaka magically covered and not rained on like last year is what would float my boat.

High Noon not your concern
This season is going to be interesting with the late start delayed school Holidays at both ends. Big challenges ahead to keep as much of the ski areas open for the late October Schhool Holidays and any spin offs from the RWC.
Which when you think about it is a plus that opening later the chances of a decent snow cover is much higher than an early june star.
April fools prank - that makes perfect sense.
It is always exciting when it gets colder, daylight savings is over and less than 3 months to go, only 2 months if grabaseat flies to QT in mid June.
It will be very interesting about the late school holidays - Turoa has a habbit of not opening all the lifts until school holidays starts..
--------------------------------
Winter is always coming!
^^ which tells you a lot about Turoa demographic. At least Turoa's more open but if everyones channeled into the highnoon or giant (is it??) if the works not completed it must be hell
Do they ever run the T out west any more?? I never saw it running the odd time I went to the dark side. Looks like it would be a nice place to escape some of the madness.
It's not been running much in recent years... but I think RAL said it would be open more this season now the Flyer will be out of action?
whats with the background photos of ruapehu in the ral season pass ads..http://www.mtruapehu.com/winter/season-passes/ [mtruapehu.com]
and there is one that shows the old high noon t bar ???
none with pictures of the express...what express they reply...........
all the header images appear to be flipped/mirrored too.
The T I think is for busy weekends - but I never go in the weekends.

Winter is always coming!
While Turoa is more open than whaka, whaka takes far less snow to open decent runs. Waterfall express has lots of awesome terrain when there isn't much snow, but the giant just turns into a very narrow gully run with little snow. Plus Turoa has tones of ridges that need to be covered before its any good.
And now with the flyer out of action turoa early season wont be a pretty sight, can take ages to get the coverage needed to open the high noon. High noon seems to take a similar amount of snow to open as the west at whaka.
But if they fail to get stuff open in time at turoa and if it turns into nothing but giant and movenpick I'd hate to think of the ques or even worse if everyone heads round to whaka.
Yeah they're going to have to get creative around snow management in terms of filling some of the gullies and getting Big Bowl and Vertigo open nice and early as a minimum. I wonder how much snow it takes to open Big Bowl for example - the issue is the cat track at the bottom and the run down to the Giant cafe, I suspect.
Would be really nice if they could maintain a good exit from Why Not out to the express as well - I know last year they were pushed for snow cover on that face but for much of the season there was no actual 'exit' except out the bottom where it merges with Boneyard.
Just had the weekend up the hill. Good to be "home". Hut all ready to go - just need the snow. It will come. Half of the fun of the season is the 3 month anticipation-check-the-webcams every 5 minutes
Got an awesome book from the Alpine Club - back country tours. Plan to do all the glaciers on Rua in two days. Had better start training.![]()

I don't know where you guys buy your gear from but I got a pretty good deal buying from the US. The board that was gonna cost me around $1200,00 in here costed $560,00 (with shipping).

You need to buy your local shop more beer. If you look after them they will look after you
I occasionally buy stuff online but if something goes wrong with it it's really nice to have a brick-and-mortar shop to take it back to. Case in point, last year I had to warranty a pair of skis AND a pair of bindings and I would have been pushing wet doo-doo uphill to do that from an online US seller.
Snow on the webcams, weeehu!
That will help get the Low Noon Ex.....press happening!

Agreed, having gone through a bad patch of gear fails in the last 2 years (3 pairs of bindings, one pair of skis, a pair of $300 gloves, a couple of minor repairs to my jacket) the local guys have done all this for free and without too much hassle. Hardware especially is worthwhile for buying local I reckon.
