Agreed, having gone through a bad patch of gear fails in the last 2 years (3 pairs of bindings, one pair of skis, a pair of $300 gloves, a couple of minor repairs to my jacket) the local guys have done all this for free and without too much hassle. Hardware especially is worthwhile for buying local I reckon.

God we're munters... 4 bindings and 2 skis between us in the space of roughly a year :P

Snow on the cams always gets me a little bit stoked but considering the epic work required on the Express it does make me a little anxious.

you buy at the end of the season and get it dirt cheap. 50-75% off is very common. Torpedo7 and hyper also do some awesome deals.

Also stuff can be different when you get it from what you think from pics. Not 100% happy with my new bindings but they do the job, after that I'm not to keen on buying gear online, plus you want to keep your local shops going.

Online is great for the crazy cheap deals but I would not but non discounted stuff online and when you add it up gear isn't all the much cheaper and you don't have someone to talk to about the stuff. I would never buy boots online as you never really know if they will fit you right till you try them on.

oh dear things do not look good for the rebuilding of the High Noon express at the moment.

Snow and maybe firey rocks from the sky! Now that will suck if it blows given the last time it did the old High Noon T-Bar was within the safety exclusion zone.
Kiss goodbye to the Far West T at whakapapa being open as well.

Bad news really while RAL are trying to sell season passes in a very tough economic market.

The mountain is going to have the final word.

Got upset much Voltaren? Go read the emergency management plan and look at the posters of the areas of affect IF the mountain blows big style like 95/96.

We do not need this bullshyt talk that has been going around of the lift not being completed on time and an eruption destroying the ski areas. Media bullshyt and public panic following the Christchurch and Japan shakes are more damaging at the moment. Common the media can not get the date right of the last eruption, I am sure my cousin Shane will be able to correct that error.

I just knew exactly what I was buying and it couldn't be much different except that it was cheaper. Got my board yesterday, 2011 Bataleon Undisputed, a bit hard to find around here so I'm quite happy

It's rare that I am not in the top carpark so a park right next door aint going to help me.

NO ONE is worse than 12 year old green jacket wearing racers. No matter how big the que and how many people shouting at them, they are 100% oblivious to the que system.

Yes, but as the operator I guess RAL can do what they want.

I'm not gonna be getting one. Valet parking, stuff that. What's your average car-parking kid gonna do with the keys to a 400hp Subaru in a snowy carpark, I think we can all guess ;/

EDIT: At least there's only 300. Realistically that should mean a negligible impact on the field and it's a handy $300k cash injection for RAL.

Their lifts they can do what they like with them, nothing ever stops you hiking up. Better hope that express is finished in time or those 300 people will be getting all the freshies at Turoa

According to someone who works for DoC there was a meeting about the crater lake warming and additional activity. Talk is the Alert Level may rise to Level 2 depending on what the next visit (after the weather clears) shows up.

yeah gota love mid week, mid season weekends are a waste of time if you wan to ride the lifts. When it is busy if find the longest run possible even if that includes a big hike out it is always worth it and gota love those fresh tracks days after the last snow that no one has found as they can't ski out.

piff it's just as likely that the ground will shake as the mountain will erupt. Unless it actually blows I'm not staying away, it would be a bigger worry if taupo was heating up.

Nothing will happen, just hope this snow goes by Easter weekend had planned a weekend walking the tracks. It is to long to wait until the season starts.

Not what I heard and not just from your average Joe. Media are always going to make out the worst for a story and it's a real shame that it is causing people to ring up asking for season pass refunds. Not good for anyone.

It was explained to me in simple terms today. If you think a hot lake means she's going to blow then go ahead but an optimistic person will look at it as the mountain is venting out and not storing up all that lethal energy.

Yep I'll be up there for another season. Paying for it now by being a wage slave in Wellingotn. 12 hour days in the cubicle, gotta love 'em.
I noticed the reservior was empty when I was up there at the weekend, apparently DoC requires it to be full all the time. Maybe they are doing repairs?
