Yea she can be all good and priced well. I got 250km of pistes for these first 3 weeks at $36 NZD a day and going to work out about the same where I am next. At $36 a day I don't mind calling it quits at 2pm when the legs are dead after 5 hours of charging. Thats when the .28€ beers are riechiss! Looks like a storm brewing at my next location on Friday and I arrive on Saturday. Good timing...again! Still miss skiing Rua for less than it costs me to buy a sandwhich...
Bring warm gear. Europe is seriously cold at the mo. Skiing in -25 air temps with the wind chill on top of that. Had to fork out for some serious mitts. If you want mitts when your digits are toasty at -30 degrees, then I would totally suggest Hestra Extreme mitts, the best they make. Fingers never been so warm. I am also rocking the Equinox down jacket by Macpac that is currently $200 off. Only problem is the face that got hammered. Have some strips where the wind got in and it seems to of given some good burns to the skin and it doesn't appear to be going away....

@ Draizuh - Nice work, looks EPIC! Hakuba is definitely on my hit list in the near future.

So do you reckon thermal top, t shirt, fleece and shell jacket would be enough on top? Bottom thermal longjohns and ski trousers. you should pick up one of those neoprene or fleecy facemasks the euros always seem to wear.

what's their max base? Like 38 inches, roughly 97 cm's... It isn't looking flash. Sure, I'd ride it if I was there, but by all accounts, it's a disappointing season there.

You aren't familiar with unofficial squaw? (or unofficial networks...?)

They've completely missed November, December and half of January. That's revenue that they'll never recover, regardless of how much snow they get now.

I just wish I could afford head back to take advantage of what's there now....

It should be peak season there now. There is no snow on the horizon until at least mid feb. It sucks, I'm bummed for the people over there, from what I've seen, off piste is a mix of ice, slush, and dirt. That said, as one local old timer pointed out, people have pretty big expectations following two back to back 500 inch seasons (which is exceptional). What cracks me up is your call that the Mt Rose chutes will be epic following the one decent storm they did have... still not open.

Your comparison is so illogical it's not funny eh.

but the base is only 13cm less than cps real base (not the one you invent to suit your argument)last year and you said you never had a bad day then? but good point, at 2200m base squaw would get alot more ice, slush and dirt than cp at 1200m. your comments as always are so illogical its painful

I took my figure from the snow-graphs... I reckon they are reasonable enough an indicator, at least at cp and remarks...

Altitude doesn't always = colder. Remember, tahoe is around 39 degrees latitude, vs lower South Island around 45... latitude is important too. As well as the actual climatology... It's been a pretty warm winter there, and across much of the rest of the states. A lot of above zero days, and nights. A few rain on snow events to high elevation too.

I know Tahoe is usually pretty damn reliable, that is what makes this season so much more painful for them.

Meh, if I'd gone anywhere this summer it woulda been Morocco. Eastern bloc looks rad, and will definitely hit Japan at some point. Want to hit the central alps first though, shame I couldn't do it this season, woulda been a good one. Will probably be ass there again next season.

I am looking for one of those Neoprene things the other day (Jude also wears one) but couldn't find one.

I would say not. I only ever wear quality merino and nothing else. I was wearing a 180g, 280g, dainese back protector vest (warm as) and a 400g Merino jumper covered by Macpacs Prophet shell (best they make) and I could feel it a bit. Still wear the same but swapped out the shell for the down jacket and been toasty apart from toes and face. Warmer body keeps the other bits warm. Just long johns and some beefy oakly pants keep the legs all good.

Morzine just down the road so I imagine will be just as cold.

Yea man. I paid 99Euro for the Extreme mitts (goat leather and one sheet of seemless nylon or for the same price you can have the Gore-tex ones or the ones with the lobster claw but they arn't ment to be quite as warm but would do anywhere but extreme cold like the mo. Locals saying un commen. Would love some of their gore-tex gloves as well but bugger it when $30 and $60 leather work gloves from Vertical at Rua are so good for Ruapehu and it's sh1t climate.

Too early for what?

Geez man, they're having their warmest winter in 53 years....

Surely planning to go to a ski area like Tahoe in January, when thier season starts in November and expecting a reasonable natural coverage is not expecting too much. Sure, maybe as a general rule they get their best snow in feb/march/some time other than when I went, but Dec/Jan was when I could go. I wasn't too concerned about riding round with a snorkel and measuring the moisture content of the snowflakes to compare dryness.
I just wanted to go riding.....
