Ski season starts 9th June and ends 9th Oct. Anytime is good but if you can AVOID the Australian school holidays at the start of July that would be my recommendation. It's very busy then.
Checkout the Queenstown website www.queenstown-nz.co.nz as this lists all the ski companies and rental shops

Well, for some people such questions are stupid, for some not. For me it was very usefull information, Kiwi, thanks for the info about Australian school holidays

He may turn up on opening day at Hutt with a surfboard and wetsuit.
I saw a magazine where guys were skiing shingle slopes on fat skis maybe one of them was him.

Seems like BP should head to Otago or, even better, Southland, if he needs a summer. You heading to Tahoe this summer BP? Looks like it's been a bit average there so far, same for CO and Utah. Good to see Europe delivering, and the boys in Canada are getting it good too.

only eastern bloc, japan and coronet get real snow so why bother. summer in canty has been quite alright thanks, no need to interfer with the inbreeding program of the lower south.

Was in the Upper Hollyford around New Years, still enough snow to slide around in the upper gertrude and elsewhere, but I had other priorities. A real GC just knocked off the east face of Aoraki and scored a first descent of Mt Tasman too, gnar.

Late July and August is the most reliable time for good snow.
