Hi everyone,

My partner and I are leaving the UK to come and do a season at Mt Ruapehu! I'm from Wellington and know the area pretty well and this will be her second time here. We're trying to sort out a house to rent for the whole season before we leave London. We'll be arriving in NZ in April and will pretty much be keen to be in Ohakune from then until the snow melts in November. I've been trawling through websites but there seems to only be holiday accommodation rather than whole season rentals listed. Can anyone recommend somewhere good to look or even better, does anyone have a place in Ohakune that they'd like to rent to two very well behaved travelers?!

Any ideas or suggestions welcome!

your best bet is to get to ohakune and ask the locals, april is a good time..friends have a house to rent but it may be too large for you, it has a separate unit (suit couple) and a 4 bedroom house, currently on the market for sale..look at paying $100 a week for a room at least...good luck

Hi, thanks for the info. We'll be driving to Wellington from Auckland in April so can very easily pop into Ohakune for a day or two and check out places.

What's the unit like that your friends have? I'd definitely like to check it out.

Hi Ceirios

An option is to go stay at Station Lodge Ohakune www.stationlodge.co.nz It is a great base to find suitable place to rent and we will share all the local knowledge and places that we know have been available in the past.

Hey! My partner and I are also looking for a place for the season, we are both working at Turoa for the season.

Voltaren I would love some more details about the 4 bedroom house.

Ceirios & Dugald maybe we could look at renting the 4 bedroom house? I'm sure i could find some more people to live in the house as my partner and I both worked at Turoa last season and know a lot of people working again this season.

Let me know what you think.

Cheers
Steph

No worries, were very reliable, friendly and easy to get along with
There is another couple who are good friends of ours who are also looking for a room.

Will wait for some details on the 4bedroom house. See what happens. We arrive around May 10 so will have plenty of time to go and look at some places.

Thanks for the tips and info, keep it coming! If anyone knows of any one-bedroom places, we'd be keen as mustard. If not, we are actually pretty nice and would be very happy to share, so Steph, if you find anywhere, let us know!

Sweet will do.
It is hard to find a one bedroom place, i only knew one couple who found a 1bed place and they are back there this season.

Most of the accom in anything from 4 to 8 bedroom houses.
Will keep you posted if i hear of anything

I got a sneeky feeling that there will be a staff accomodation shortage this year in Ohakune and National Park! RAL have stopped paying the travel allowance for living outside those areas. Already seeing increases to the rents due to other influences caused by the power supplier and reduction of rooms at some accomodation outlets.

Hi, new on here!!
I'm heading to Ohakune this winter from UK and am looking for a room/bed in a shared house for the season. I arrive at the start of June and am working at the Turoa snow school. I also know a few other people looking to rent...
