Friend has just come through central plateau - said there was 'heaps' of snow on side of road (ie enough for the kids to play with). Not looking like like heaps has fallen on mountain though

it was a very brief snowfall but reasonably consistent, snow down to the trees ..the reason the upper mtn is thin is all the snow was washed off the day before from the warm rain...

I've got this bit sorted. Mobile phone with remote desktop.
Phone VPNs to home, remote controls the laptop.
Laptop VPNs to work, remote controls the server.
Done deal

Now, to go ski Manganui this weekend! (Perhaps?)

Going south this weekend to hopefully get some snow. I can't wait till early july which is the earliest I would be able to get up to ruapehu since I'm busy for the next 3 weeks after the weekend. Maybe the snowco forcast will be right for once

It will either be amazing or terrible. If the freezing level is still over 2km then it will just be rain and will f*ck anything that's fallen so far.

The forecast looks marginal either way at this point. I think the upper mountain should be OK but below the top of the 'pick at Turoa might be nasty.

Too early to tell. We need another depression to suck in the polar air and spit it across the NI. Sick of seeing the depressions coming from the Tasman sea.

Thought about that early last season but I think the rain washed it away which made up my mind for me. Never been there, bit of a walk in?

It's not too bad. I tramped through there when doing the around-the-mountain track a few years ago. They have a goods lift too.
I think we'll have a look at the forecast on Friday night and go from there. If the freezing level drops more than it's currently forecast to then it's on

have you guys all checked out the whakapapa, turoa etc reports on the metservice webpage? I did for the first time this week. It extends the forecast out to 7 days rather than the 5 days for tongariro national park, plus has some other interesting graphs underneath that. You find them in the same place as the nat.park forecast, under the mountain drop box on the homepage. worth a look

ps, can someone re-position the whakapapa cams? Im sure we have all had enough of looking at the new cafe and cat shed by now, I wanna see the snow!

Depends on 3 things:
1. Weather
2. Being able to scam some decent rock-hoppers
3. Not mysteriously going to Mt Ruapehu and hiking or something equally stupid (Mt Hutt anyone?!?!)
