No idea, we can hope though. Maybe get some snow making overnight if the wind dies down? Who knows?

oh noes! Friday will be my first day this season it cannot be bad!!
nice post and pics CCS. fully gutted about the rain
sorry gale force east..doesnt sound good on met forecast..still its 4 days out, u never know.
--------------------------------
Yeah....same deal as last season on those Eastern systems. Mix of snow and rain..... still next week possibly better pattern like Freshie says.
Too early for me to be heading down, experience says wait till end of July at least.
Rain is a bummer ![]()

"If you see a Scotsman with a cricket bat....he's not off to play cricket...."
Great pics CCS and well done on the hike on those 'summer legs'
I'm heading up to start my new life at Whaka on Friday. Will be hiking everthing up (worked out at least 4 trips - it's all those nail polishes
so my summer legs are going to be screaming by the end. Forecast not looking good for weekend so not going to rely on lifts to get stuff in. i reckon there won't be any really decent skiing till mid July so I plan to use the time to practice 'technical' stuff. Want to be able to ski switch for more than a few metres without freaking out
(I can do it no problem on inlines but not skis - totally random). Aim to ski as well backwards and I do forwards ![]()

Do you get an Internet connection up there as well?
I am fairly sure there is no ADSL broadband on the hill, (The phones all get trunked down to the chateau over a microwave link, so there is not alot of capacity, even dial up would be scratchy over such a link)
But you will get reasonable 3G mobile broadband coverage for both XT and Vodafone.
What happend to the all the snow? ![]()
Looks sad, not sure if there will much riding this weekend ![]()
Gone burger. I'd say learner areas both sides this weekend (maybe rockgarden or parklane if we're lucky). Let's hope for some snow friday.

I'm hoping dial up will 'work'. On my reduced circumstances don't want to fork out on mobile broadband. Maybe I'll find an unsecure network
or do a Mata Hari on an RAL IT worker

I'm cautiously optimistic about Movenpick access to High Flyer, assuming the wind plays nicely.
Had a mega gay session on the alpine meadow today.
The only fun we had was hitting a 3-4metre long, wide box, up until 11am when the staff told us we couldn't hit any longer because the "official" park crew didn't set it up and if we hurt ourselves it was their liability.
What a load of ******* that was.
I asked them if they could get some of the park crew to set it up but they'd given them the day off. And there was no consideration for us riding at our own risk.
We tried building a little jump but there literally wasn't even enough snow for that. Couldn't get enough speed either. What a nightmare.
Oh well, better than working and I didn't really expect much different. High flyer and movenpick are supposed to be opening tomorrow according to some of the lifites.

Sunday is looking good especially if this snow keeps drizzling throughout the week... Although saturday looks like terds, sotherly gales ouch

"If in doubt, straighten 'em out"
Flag it I can wait another week, good news is southerly gales = cold, should be a ok week for snowmaking.
All five weather sites I check have got a bit of snow coming through this wekk, good odds especially if they get some made as well

now sunday does look good if they get some snow and movenpick and the flyer are open I'd consider it.

Like Kingkarl, I too went up to Turoa today (Tues).
The low-down:
Movenpick was 'on hold', but never opened.
Only the meadow was open, well the top half, the rest was straight rock, literally.
A mate and I flagged that and started a hike up Clarry's in search of something resembling snow. Most of clarrys has been washed away. We got to winter garden, which should be called rock garden at present (and not the snowy whakas type). Met a couple of people who said its all crap until maybe the high noon (there's streams running down bone yards). Decided screw that, hiking in ski-boots sucks. So we found two rolling pitches on clarrys with a bit of snow/ice and manually patched the small area of shingle between them with snow from off-piste to create a small bit of trail....desperate? maybe, but better than frolicking in the meadow.

yeah it never seems that great for ruapehu but there is heaps of use in the si. There are a number of facebook groups as well, can help to hook up with people.

That's because we don't have Mt Hutt to complain about
I will have my car down in wellington from the 10th of July onwards. I'm hoping to hit Turoa most weekends and sometimes tuesdays/wednesdays.
Anyone's welcome to share the ride, if you keep me happy with a box of beer or some token gas $$$

Turoa report says
"We are confident the Highflyer Chairlift will OPEN tomorrow weather conditions permitting"...although this does come from their site which the weather forcast for turoa was 5 sun icons this week

the fact the ruapehu is the only real place to go riding in the north island and there are around three times as many people in the north than south island might explain it.

So true. You SI's are spoiled for choice. Keep hearing snow in your forecasts.
But you are all shut by mid October (?) and we are still going into November. Ideal solution - first half of season in SI, second NI

Certainly could do with some more snow. Only light snow forecast for then next few days. A massive dump is required ... sometime next week please. ![]()

If you don't like my fire don't come around.
Give it a month at least....its far too early.....I reckon next week should bring some good snow if the charts hold...that's IF they hold!

I believe it was about 10.15am. Not many people upper mountain, just seemed that way due to having 1 trail and icy off trail. DOH!
