Let's hope! How's the knee at the moment? When I did mine I was told to have super strong quads and hammies to support the knee. Did that through stationery rowing and cycling. Don't laugh, but deep water aquafitness/jogging good. You'll be a hit with the aquajogging ladies down at the pool Local Sallie shop has a nice range of flowery bathing caps.

Ahh the great Autumn Tease thread.

Snow in May will not stay, Snow in June is still to soon.

None of the major southerly outbreaks before the solstice are likely to be of any use to the fields, other than to help with snow making.

RAL would be quite happy with a warm settled early autumn to allow them to get the knoll ridge cafe closed in.

Heard that RMCA forum on Saturday told Knoll not likely to be finished before Oct.

Irrespective of what the final "finishing" date is, I would still expect that they will have the outershell ( windows/walls/roof) finished by July.
(but it will probably take another few months after that to do the interior finishing (Gib, insulation, wiring, plumbing, carpeting and fixtures)

+ its a big dent in the budget if you can't sell wedges and hot coffees to the punters for a season.

And they didn't expand LBC this season as planned. Wedge and coffee sales will be well down. And Shuss Haus not opening this season. Least they still have temporary cafe which did Ok last season considering. Join a club and you don't have to use the cafes - only the loos which is another issue.....

Food and beverage sales, rentals and all that other stuff we 'don't use' is a big part of RAL profit and profit (along with the odd life pass sale) builds new lifts.

Great theory!
However the last upper mountain lift built on Whakapapa was 1989!
West ridge Quad.
In the mean time we have lost Meads wall, Hut fat 2, Pinnacles Platters, Cinder Track platter and two T-bars out west (which that chair replaced)
Soon to loose Far west-T
Great theory?

what is the far west t going? they should reinstall all those lift somewhere useful. One of the platters back to the bottom of the west quad from black magic would be awesome.

Wouldn't be surprised if the blyth flat cafe gets built first at this rate to try and sell more coffees They actually seem to have more lift plans at turoa that will open up anything new.
There was a plan to extend the high flyer down to the bottom of the south east basin.
With how hard it has been to get resource consent on the upper mt at whakapapa we might end up with the tenants valley express and movenpick 6 pack replacement first.

Maybe they are saving up on the F&B sales - like a cake stall Notice there are a lot more day-tripper non-skiers riding the lifts at Whakapapa (some one shelia in stiletto boots!). I'd be wanting to milk that market and for that you need decent F&B. And shouldn't diss them - probably also spend $ on accom etc. All good for the local enconomy.
Heard that the Valley/Knoll/Waterfall replacements 'definite' next summer. Not sure about putting all eggs in one basket - ie expensive chairs which shut down at the first puff of wind. But then again T-bars not easy to maintain. Anyone see the Jumbo going last season?

new lifts at ruapehu..rumours rumours....turoa will get a big comfy cafe at the top of the movenpick/base of the express before any other lifts will happen there..say they start now the cafe should be built in 5 years at turoa....meanwhile whakapapa the rumours dont sound too good , no lifts to extend beyond already lift accessed terrain...i hope thats not true cos whaka would be all time if the lifts went higher..but you should see something done with the centennial..maybe a high speed double

why would you try and change anyway? sounds crazy but the jumbo ran heaps last year, but few people use it even if there is a 2 sec que vs 15min on the 6.

I dunno if the Jumbo is the greatest T to learn on... something like the Waterfall T at Whakapapa is a lot more mellow and the other users will be more sympathetic if you're rolling around on the T-line half way up. But hey, give it a shot, if you fall in a mess at least you'll entertain the other people on the T

It's pretty simple, main thing is to keep your board going straight uphill and don't pull on the t as that makes it twist. You see so many learners trying to go up sideways and they don't last more than 10m. The valley t at whakapapa is probably the easiest to learn on. Waterfall has a really steep bit that takes so many people out, but then falling is not such a big deal. Jumbo is by far the longest and has some of the steepest bits on any ruapehu t.

Specifically, yes.
Down hills isn't marvelous either.

Mind you I wouldn't want to be going UP stairs too often either. Been getting good use out of the elevator at work, despite the odd looks you get for taking a lift for 1 or 2 floors when there's an internal access staircase anyway...

Could also be a little tear in cartilage which is easy fixed. I had both, so I guess I can't say what was the causing the stair issue. But after the reconstruction/s they told me not to walk downhill for a while cos it puts pressure on ACL. Hard when I lived up 100 steps. In fact falling down some stairs broke the graft = second reconstruction.

T's are awesome. Try going up one when you're 5'10 with someone that's 6'7 and you're both riding enormous skis. Hilarity, ruined quads and smashed up skis ensue For bonus points, try and get the T stuck in the hood of your jacket then do a backflip-to-faceplant off the safety wall-of-snow thing, as well as tripping the safety switch rope.

EDIT: Ultra bonus points: fall off the T but get your backpack stuck in it, refuse to surrender your backpack and instead get dragged to the top on your stomach by holding onto the bag straps. Oh Waterfall T-Bar, your entertainment potential is limitless...

I normally find after telling the 50m gapers to slap it between there legs, they also make it straight to the top.

Funny - all my T 'incidents' have occurred on the Waterfall. You'd think the Jumbo, Knoll, or Far-West would be worse (steeper, nasty jerky take-off etc). A friend had his jaw broken when he and a boarder collided at the bottom of the terrain park as he was heading to the Waterfall to get on (someone didn't plan the placement of that park very well).
