a slight difference of opinion re the mardigra

from Ruapehu view from the top:

The 2010 Mt Ruapehu Mardi Gras was a huge success with 8000 tickets selling out by 1:55 pm on Friday the 25th of June, well before the gates opened and many even got into town! We hope that all of you who attended had a safe and fun time and posed for a few more facebook photos along the way.

AWwww sounds all nice and happy!

Looks like some snow overnight - up to my knees in snow to get this shot out of the back door.

Could be something in the Waterfall chair rumour - no chairs on it, so maybe I was imagining things when I thought I saw it running the other day. Cat going up and down so maybe they are using that to get staff up? Didn't think there was enough snow....

Was dumb and ran out in kitchen clogs which got a bit full of snow. Need to do a bit of snow digging otherwise I won't be able to get the door open. Might be tempted to go to HV today. Enough snow to skin back up RG.

What, does a bus drivers' license come with a Bachelor of Law now?

I'd like to see you try, you grotty little internet warrior.

Your bluff, I have called it.

EDIT: Sigh, I don't know why I get drawn into these things.

But just to work out who I am you would have to get a court order first against nzxsports to get my IP, then against my ISP to get my address, and you probably still wouldn't even know my name since the internet connection isn't even in my name. That's kind of a requirement for getting anything done in the legal system. However you would almost certainly fail at the first hurdle, since the Privacy Act demands that you have a pretty damn compelling reason for nzxsports to divulge personal information they have collected about me (in this case, my IP address) and the same is true about my ISP. You can't just go and get a court order (and please tell me, what kind of 'court order' would you be going to get?) against 'Mr rozboon' so he can't be mean to you in the interwebs.

High Noon Express Update
Posted on 29 June 2010 at 09:34 AM

All the new Lift Tower components arrived safely back at Turoa yesterday (Monday) and the bottom section is now on it's way back up the mountain. This will be attached to the foundations today. Sections two and three along with the cross head will need to be flown into place by helicopter. Our best opportunity looks like Thursday and Friday, so we'll keep you updated and post photos and video as things take place.

Once back together, the lift will undergo rigorous safety checks and then be certified by SGS and a new operating certificate issued. We're still very confident that the lift will be operational during next week.

The majority of posts in this thread are about Ruapehu or at the very least have a RAL flavour. It never really strays that far off topic. I find its a great thread that keeps me up to date with whats happening on the Mountain when forum members post about their days riding, pictures from the Hut (thanks Jude) and weekend happenings from CCS. I can't edit this thread anymore anyhoo due to its size and my chip paper wrapper admin rights. MtRuapehu.com has lots of up to date stuff too, but it is good to hear from real people doing at the Giant!

Just been down to Happy Valley. A bit tragic but better than nothing. Quite busy for a Tuesday (varsity hols?). Despite reproofing my gear I got wet (wet snow). Don't use Nikwax

Skinned up the RG. Broke my ankle before I got proficient on the skins and almost did complete faceplant outside rental returns Lucky no one around. Was good once I got into the stride (or slide) and over the munched up cat snow. Word is the RG will open this weekend. The bald patch in the middle has almost gone.

Snow looks a bit rubbish in that photo of your skis...But Rockgarden is looking good. Your prety good on the daily report ae?

Turoa was pretty busy today too. The snow was a wee bit wet but all good on trail but off trail there was a very crunchy crust that kept trying to catch a ski..was very hard going

Now where do I start... RAL is getting good at getting me excited this season but just keeps stomping me in the nads. First the express broke (I hear today from a snowmaker that it was because the de-icers didnt de-ice tower 9 but did the others, dont know how much truth but i'd believe that)
Then the other day the 'pick' breaks down for an hour.
Then today the 'Pick' apparently had a problem at first but seemed ok then at 12.30 The flyer breaks down and was still not going when I left after a hike at 2.30. This is just getting to me. Come-on whaka get snow and open so I can abandon that sh1tty side

@ Jedski - yep that snow on the RG rubbish but only because the cat has been running up and down chopping it all up.
Would be good if groomed but they need todo a combover on the bald spot halfway up
