Yeah, I'd rather me mooching by my fire too than at work. I love fireplaces and everything that goes with them. Spent 6 hours in the weekend gathering and cutting firewood. Haven't had to pay for hot water since mid May or use the cloths drier either thanks to my log burner. But do you mean your fireplace in 'kune' CS?

On that subject, does anyone know how strict ski patrol are when it comes to jibbing/tapping/bonking trail markers?

Reason I ask is because I did it a bit last season (not hard enough to damage/make them fall over) and I read somewhere over in the states they take your pass (season or otherwise) from you if you do that.

I'd say they'll be pretty harsh over here too. There's plenty of other stuff you can tap/jib without risking messing up their 'safety' signage...

I remember that thread on NS though, haha. Have you seen the video where t-wall gets shouted at by a patroller for popping over a slow sign?

EDIT: In other news, haven't SEEN the mountain in 2 days. Hopefully tomorrow is a bit more mellow and lets us back up the slopes but I'm not holding my breath. Super keen to get back out there, I was hugely amping at the end of our last day

Ah yeah, i know its unpredictable. I heard that a storm is on its way and am hoping that its clearish for the next week while i attempt to get my shred on. I was up there two? years ago and struck gold at this time of the year. A week of sun that started with 8in of powder. Great times

Im not to sure who he is aye, I was just standing there in my tux...and this crazy jandal wearing yobbo comes up and starts trying to lick the side of my head. Totally disturbing, I waddled off slowly (which is fast for a penguin)...

Ken Ring reckons its gonna be a late winter. August is when we will get plenty of snow. He predicted the snow on the 29th of July so whos to say he's just a nutter!

He's even given an indication on the best time to take that winter ski holiday for both Islands. First 2 weeks of September for Sth island and 3rd week of October for Rua. I'm filling in my leave for right now

Oh yeah, he also says this will be the last decent snow season until 2016.

.......................

Boy this will excite many! If this is the case we will ALL be back to grass skiing.

On the otherside of the coin if he is true or even half true then the ski industry will be sorely tested in the next few year. NZSKI is the only really exposed, as the other private operates will just shutdown and wait, club fields will do what club fields do and use volunteers and ridie it out and, again, as RAL is non-profit it could sit it out and leverage the limited summer revenue to cover base costs.

Woohoo should be some cheap purchases coming up in the next few year!

Yeah I downloaded his E-book to see how accurate his calls are for 2010. Was only $10. I think the poor ski seasons will still be ok for the big commercials due to snow making technology and weather anomolies.

His theories are interesting though and certainly not rocket science. All to do with the 13 day rotational movement of the moon around the earth and how far away/close it (the moon) is at the time.

Blunt,

True. I dont know who he is and there are many out there that get on soapboxes about weather patterns and climatic cycles and it is certainly a populist topic of conversation amongst younger generations.

....but keep in mind for many winter is an experience and standing around watch technology spit out artificial snow isn't quite the same for many.

I watched very young kids here in Melbourne a few years ago who had never seen rain before, this was during the protracted drought Australia enjoyed...you should have seen the looks on the little buttons faces, its was magic. Standing under the shower just isn't the same.

You're a fool man. You ski on 50's and you cant avoid slow down signs?? You do realise that you slow down before the sign not right when heading right into it...Ever tried just giong in a strait line? or putting your boards to what they are made for and boosting by on the off trail. You just ask for abuse.
If you break (or see someone) break a sign/marker you should always stop and pick it up or push it into the snow.
How about I take those new 50's off you for $800 and you go get your self a Pair of those AC's without a number. Get in control duffas!
