Solid morning hunting patches of wind-blown with Jude around at Whakapapapapappa. As mentioned, torrid wind. Face was promptly removed by sand, er, ice-blasting.
And yet below Staircase the snow was slushy as heck and barely a zephyr of wind. Good fun really.

Having a good rain now in 'Kune, hopefully snowing up the hill...

Jedski,

*standing on the top of your skis/board and grinding slowly whilst smiling nicely* Nup didn't understand any of that but got the general thrust...

Grizzly's and 50's were not around 5 years ago. Only AC1, AC2 and AC3 and then AC3 Titanium the year after...

I really really wanted a pair of Stoekli but wife preferred diamonds....her request was cheaper.

Pics of the day...wind back again now and the promised snow has not eventuated

Morning in RG - nasty - rocks, people, slush, narrow....

Later at top of Valley T - dermabrasion, ice boulders and rocks on T line. BUT still had good time.

I going to join the crowds Sat/Sun. Need my first ski fix.
Jimmy is forecasting snow down to the Desert Road to-night. Fingers crossed that some of this will make it to Whaka/Turoa.

Nothing here yet. Keep hoping that I'll wake up to a 20cm-overnight-calm-bluebird-day
Just talked to a mate with a station up Taihape way - expecting snow down to 800m. If it comes, I think Turoa will get it not Whaka Maybe I'll head around there on my days off next week

Not a flurry of snow overnight (think Turoa might have some). Skies clear but blowing a gale (again) more from South I think as not getting the nails-on-a-blackboard SE whistle off the side of the lodge. Doubt if Whaka will open today - no grooming done on RG overnight.
Ps CCS - great pic - where did you take that?

Still blowing a gale and no snow. Food run and Lorenzo's was exciting as it got for the day. Did see some people heading to Happy Valley with some home-made snowboards - shoes glued to bits of board. Too slow (flabbergasted) to get a pic

Do they ever have Mountain Hosts that snowboard? I think I have only seen "old grey moe" and "big orange viking" up there, and they were on skis.

The Volkl AC4 came out 2005 and was replaced by the AC40 in 2008 and AC 50 in 2009 I think. All 3 are very similar with the AC50 being 85mm under waist and
the 4s and 40s 82mm.

Is there only that minimalistic track, that you showed the picture of the other day, as the lower part of the mountain?

Is the upper mountain alot better?

Yep - and it is HIDEOUS. Rocks/people/stange sugary man-made snow. Had my bases done last week and now scratched to pieces. Wish I'd brought my rock hopper skis.
PS: just cranked up snowmaking on RG. MMMMMMmmmm more 'sugar' but hopefully will cover the rocks sitting just under the surface of the main track

Thanks for the info, i have my bindings on my rock board at the moment, but have a new board waiting that i desperately want to try out. I will have to stick to the upper Tees me thinks.

I can p-tex fairly well and am up there as of tomorrow if you need a hand.

PS - haha, i love when the rocks are covered like that, if im going to scrape my edges, i prefer a little bit of a suprise element to it.

Upper mountain wasn't bad in places. Still limited to narrow trails. Don't know what it will be like now - ie if any new snow, how much has gone to Turangi etc Pick on Wed was Bilbos on Valley T. Waterfall Express wasn't too bad. Rozboon etc did a side diversion into Honeymoon Valley which looked ok.

10cm of new snow overnight on Turoa. Still freakin cold here in Wgtn this morning and the southerly blew its t1ts off in the Wairarapa last night! With a little more snow forecast tonight and clearing from the south tomorrow, Sundays looking ok ... lets hope all the lifts are going to be up and running on time. Of course Monday and Tuesday are looking great, so all your parents with kids on school holidays, avoid the weekend and head up on Monday for some Ruapehu madness.
