Based at Temple Basin Ski Area in the Arthurs Pass National Park the New Zealand Snow Safety Institute (NZSSI) runs courses on mountaineering, avalanche & mountain safety. Courses are designed for skiers, snowboarders, climbers and trampers. Programmes range from weekend avalanche awareness courses, mountain skills, Day Backcountry Skills, to 9 day MultiSkill Mountaineering Courses. The NZSSI offers the perfect location at Temple Basin Ski Area with a modern lecture theatre at the ski area lodge offering students the ideal place for lectures and mountain safety theory. Courses are reasonable priced and include accommodation and food in a comfortable modern lodge.

Forest Lodge Backpackers: Forest Lodge is nestled in the mountain beech forest, mid way along the 12km access road. The Mt Olympus Ski Club, otherwise known as the Windwhistle Winter Sports Club (WWSC) was founded in 1932. The club began with ice-skating at Lake Ida, and then in 1948 chose Mt Olympus as the closer of two potential nearby ski-field sites. The site for the bottom hut was chosen in the same year, and a mere four years later the main rope tow was installed. In typical "can-do" club style, this was carried the last stretch of the road from Moncks Flat in one piece by ten men and two women.

Since its origins, the club has prided itself on its 'can-do' attitude, its friendliness, and social atmosphere. Members of the club patrol the field, man the main-tow on the weekends, help upgrade and maintain club facilities by attending working bees, and generally lend a helping hand whenever needed.

The job is full time and has excellent perks: Free accommodation (own bedroom) in the ski in /out top hut lodge with outdoor hot tub, free meals cooked by world famous chef "Mike" and free skiing on mind blowing terrain.

You will need to be adaptable and able to live in close quarters with 6 other staff, rosters work on a fortnight basis with 3 days off.
