The New Zealand Snowsports Council (formally NZ Ski Council) was established in 1988. It was formed to define a long term plan to promote snow sports as an exhilarating outdoor recreational activity/sport which is easily accessible and can be enjoyed by all ages and abilities.

The NZSIA was established in 1971 to train, examine and certify snowsport instructors and coaches at an internationally recognised standard. As an Incorporated Society the NZSIA is a completely non-profit organisation.

Renowned within the New Zealand snow industry and well recognised by the International Ski Instructors Association (ISIA), NZSIA is comprised of four different divisions: Ski, Snowboard (SBINZ), Telemark and Adaptive. Their vision is; ‘To be a global leader in snowsports professional development.’

The New Zealand Snowboarding Union (NZSBU) was founded to promote, develop and assist in the growth of snowboarding in New Zealand. The NZSBU is a non-profit organisation representing the sport of snowboarding in NZ, managed and administrated in most part, by a team of dedicated snowboarders and their volunteered time.

The Federation is an incorporated society with a registered Constitution. The membership comprises retailers, equipment rental outlets, wholesalers, importers and manufacturers. Membership is open to all wholesalers and retailers whose products benefit skiers, snowboarders, ski areas and related activities.

SSNZ is the national body representing national snow sports associations and regional associations not otherwise represented through a national body formed to organise and promote snow sports. The emphasis of SSNZ is on promoting competitive snow sports but it also represents recreational snow sports users.
