The federation was formed in late 1978 to represent the retail and wholesale sector of the industry. Membership comprises retailers, wholesalers and some ski areas.

A six person executive committee that is elected annually, comprising three wholesale members and three retail members manages the federation.

On behalf of its membership the federation is involved in:

• snow sports trade fair - this is a major event run by the federation annually. all industry wholesalers are eligible to exhibit product for the retail sector of the industry. the snow sports trade fair is held late september/early october and plays an important role for the federation as an effective vehicle for bringing the industry together at least once a year.

• research - the federation undertakes research on behalf of the membership. this includes import statistics for ski and snowboard hardware.

• marketing - the federation supports national marketing initiatives through the ski marketing promotion fund, in partnership with the ski areas association.

• tianz affiliation - federation members can join the tourism industry association nz as affiliate members. as affiliate members they have access to tia benefits, negotiated on behalf of the tourism industry.

• membership id cards - the federation issues nzsif gold and id cards to those members who contribute to the ski marketing promotion fund.

• legislation - the federation is in a position to prepare submissions regarding new and existing legislation. this includes legislation regarding the importation of product, duties and concessions.

• training - the federation endorses and supports training courses and works with sfrito in regard to the national certificate and units on the national qualifications framework.

WINTER SNOW SPORTS TRADE FAIR

This Is A Major Event Run By The Federation.It Is Held Annually And All Industry Importers And Manufacturers Are Eligible To Exhibit Product To The Retail Sector Of The Industry.

All wholesalers listed on the snow industry database will be sent preliminary registration forms in June or July. These forms will need to be returned to the NZ Snow Industries Federation in Wellington to have space secured for the trade fair.
