Skia ora %%First Name%%,

It's been a great start to the season with an early storm and cold cold temperatures. Almost everywhere that has snowmaking equipment is pumping out the white stuff. Hutt and Coronet had a record breaking opening weekend last weekend with over 3,000 people visiting their slopes over the two days. The weather has been a bit variable and cold since then but great for consolidating the natural snow.

It's all happening this weekend at The Remarkables who will be opening with the beginner's area, the Alta Green trail off the Alta Chair, and Sugar Bowl Chair accessing the Castaway trial and Dragon Big Park with 10 features open at this stage. Ross, the manager tells us that, "It is great to be open on time, and we are looking forward to a superb opening weekend".

Turoa has been making snow since Tuesday; they now have a 15cms base. They will not be opening their upper mountain as planned however there is a possibility of the Alpine Meadow opening for beginner skiing and snowboarding and fun in the snow. The forecast for Mt Ruapehu this Saturday is for cold southerlies, gales and snow showers easing later in the day, Sunday is definitely the day to go to enjoy the snow as it will be cold and clear. Take care on the roads as they have been having overnight low temperatures as low as -9 degrees C.

Mt Lyford has moved its opening date up to this Saturday. It is currently snowing with 5-10cm of light fluffy snow today. Average base is 55cm on main runs. Lifts operating will be learners, Paradise platter and the Cloudy T-Bar. The rope tow will be assessed tomorrow when we can see.

Snowpark have postponed their opening date from tomorrow. Their new opening date is still to be confirmed. For a full list of opening dates check out the Snowco snow reports.

If you're in Wanaka, Cardrona opens next Friday and TC is opening the following Thursday. Wet your appetite this Saturday though at the Twilight Cinema at the Lone Star Wanaka brought to you by Treble Cone.

Conditions are cold out there so take care on the roads this winter. Have fun have fun with nzski.com, Turoa and Lyford this weekend. We look forward to more snow and more openings over the next few weeks.
