Skia ora %%First Name%%,

The end of the 2012 season is drawing ever nearer BUT a high pressure system is sitting over the country today and will remain just to the east of the country right through the weekend. Recent snow has topped up most of the ski areas setting them up nicely for the spring. Believe me when I say that this will be THE spring skiing weekend of 2012. Remember your sunscreen and that melt freeze snow is best ridden on after the melt part.

Published proposed closing dates (pending snow conditions) to hand are:

This Sunday, Cheeseman;
Sept 30th Treble Cone;
Oct 6th Snowpark;
Oct 7th Remarks, Coronet, Hutt, Ohau and Porters;
Oct 22nd Whakapapa & Turoa.

Generally the ski and board areas in the South Island tend to close their doors after the last week of the school holidays, (Sunday 7th October) with the exception of some of the club fields who open for as long as the snow lasts, especially for the weekends.

If you're in the south this Sunday check out the Winnie Bagoes Community Park Jam. This is Porters is our main park event of the season. With a laid back jam-style event format where judges select finalists from an extended jam session, it allows skiers and riders to ski the park with mates in the competition, before finalists are selected to battle it out for the podium.

Along similar lines there are; the Street Youth Mini Shred and the Stash Gathering at The Remarks on Sunday, the Spring Fling Slopestyle at Hutt there will also be a lot of groms on boards at Turoa this weekend warming up for the K2 North Island Secondary School Snowboard Champs which start on Monday.

If it is less full on events that you are after, The Vaguely Familiars are playing at the Ohau Lodge or, join the fun at the Cheeseman Spring Party in the Snowline Lodge at Cheeseman, both on Saturday. Also if you're in Auckland and you don't feel like cooking head over the Shore and grab an evening roast while the kids go sledging at Snowplanet. Check out the New Zealand's only Snow Sports Calendar for more events happening this weekend.

CALL TO VOTE: You choose. Tell us who shone and who stunk. Since 2000 online Snowco has published an independent survey, which asks the public to judge, based upon their experience the level of service that they have received during their visit to a ski or board area. The survey consists of 33 questions relating to the service received from the snow user across 9 departments that make up the front line of a ski and board operation. There are two awards, the NZ Ski Area Service Award for commercial ski areas and, the NZ Small Ski Area Service Award for club operated ski fields.

Get into it, take care and have a blast.
