Skia ora %%First Name%%,

It's been raining and snowing over the last few days in the south and will continue to for a while in the north. It's been par for the course this season that the freezing levels have been marginal. It's been a warm wet season with above average number of low pressure systems moving onto the country from the northwest. Things will have cleared in the south but the time you read this but a low pressure system north of New Zealand will keep Ruapehu in the cloud until Saturday; conditions should improve mid morning. The South Island is in for a great Saturday with a cold front moving in from the south on Sunday morning affecting Otago, and then the Mackenzie later in the day. Check out the Snowco forecasts for the latest.

Remember to 'spring forward' your clocks for daylight saving on Saturday night and enjoy the long evening after a great day of spring riding on Sunday. Remember your sunscreen and that melt freeze snow is best ridden on after the melt part.

Published proposed closing dates (pending snow conditions) to hand are:

This Sunday, Treble Cone;
Oct 6th Snowpark;
Oct 7th Remarks, Coronet, Hutt, Ohau, Porters and Rainbow;
Oct 22nd Whakapapa & Turoa.

Generally the ski and board areas in the South Island tend to close their doors after the last week of the school holidays, (Sunday 7th October) with the exception of some of the club fields who open for as long as the snow lasts, especially for the weekends.

There is the Bikini Downhill at Whakapapa this weekend. You don't have to be a woman to enter this fun event and all proceeds go to the New Zealand Breast Cancer Society. The notable event coming up is the Cardrona Grom Prix which is essentially the Junior Ski & Snowboard Nationals run by Snowsports New Zealand. This event has become the pinnacle junior age event and determines teams selection based on athlete rankings. The Junior Nationals is also the final of the SSNZ NZ Junior series events. There are load of other events on this weekend, check out the New Zealand's only complete Snow Sports Calendar for more events happening this weekend.

CALL TO VOTE: You choose. Tell us who shone and who stunk. Since 2000 online Snowco has published an independent survey, which asks the public to judge, based upon their experience the level of service that they have received during their visit to a ski or board area. The survey consists of 33 questions relating to the service received from the snow user across 9 departments that make up the front line of a ski and board operation. There are two awards, the NZ Ski Area Service Award for commercial ski areas and, the NZ Small Ski Area Service Award for club operated ski fields.

Get into it, take care and have a blast.
