Skia ora %%First Name%%,

This NZ winter school holidays have seen a combination of warm spring like weather and snow, and lightweight cold fronts and snow showers. Most ski and board areas have been open for the majority of the two weeks. The word Bluebird has been slung around a lot and many skiers and boarders have enjoyed their alpine fix over this time.

The forecast is very simple this weekend (and probably more accurate than last weekend). The high pressure system is moving onto the North Island bringing calm settled conditions to the north of the country this weekend. Some unsettled weather will persist south of Tekapo until about late Saturday bringing light snow to the southern areas over the next few days. At Ruapehu expect unsettled conditions over the next couple of days as the last cold fronts pass through before the high takes command.

If you haven't looked at the NZ Snow Sports Events Calendar lately, mouse over the news link on the homepage and then move your mouse over to the  Events Calendar link.   The Junior World Heli Challenge kicks off tomorrow, or the next fine day between now and August 3rd. This new addition to the World Heli Challenge provides developing athletes an opportunity to experience the thrill of competition in the backcountry and showcase their freeriding and mountain skills in an action-packed week in New Zealand's Southern Alps.
