It's snowing!! Hang on to your hats because there is 20 - 30cms of snow due in this storm and more possible next Tuesday. In between the storms, the weekend will be... well, you had better read that below. The Canterbury club fields are on the verge of opening and winter has finally arrived. Those that have been up will know that there is some great freshies about, even though the off-piste snowbase is still in catch-up mode. Dust off your chains for this weekend because it's cooled down and it will be snowing to low levels. Rainbow is opening their T-bar from the top, Cheeseman is looking very positive for an opening within the next few days, Temple Basin is opening on Saturday and we feel that other Canterbury Club Field announcements are not far away.

EVENTS
Friday: King of Coronet Chinese Downhill at Coronet Peak
Friday & Saturday:
NZ SKi Masters competitions at Coronet Peak.
Saturday: Fire & Ice Party at Temple Basin, Ben Ohoo Highland Games at Ohau, The NZ Youth Series races at Whakapapa and Ohau.

This mass start event has something for everyone with novices lining up along side international elite athletes. For the more relaxed athlete there is the 7 km course around Merino Glen which most people manage on their first day of nordic skiing. The 21 km course travels around Merino Glen and then out around River Run and back on The Loop. For the experienced cross country skier there is the 42 km Marathon which covers the 21km course and then heads out through Hanging Valley and then back around the Loop for a second time. Lead-up from next Thursday, event next Saturday.

Get out there and enjoy this weekend!!
