Skia ora *|FNAME|*,

What a week it's been with new snow... a lot of new snow arriving this week. Average snowbases have been ramping up fast in the last two weeks from virtually nothing to; 247cms at Whakapapa, 227cms at Turoa, 171cms at Treble Cone, 120cms at The Remarkables, 95cms at Ohau and 92cms at Cardrona. All areas are open now and this weekend will be the biggest of the season so far.

Have you seen the forecast for this weekend!! We are expecting heavy snow this afternoon in the north with clearing conditions for the weekend. It's cold so you will need chains in most areas with snow to low levels, and layer it up (did I mention that it would be cold?). The AVALANCHE RISK a present is considerable to high EVERYWHERE in the country with heaps of new snow and wind loading. Stay on piste this weekend unless with a heli guide or after you have spoken to the ski patrol in your area. Be safe out there and have a blast.

We don't usually share TVNZ content (they don't share their toys) but here is a great clip from the long time mountain manager, Uli Dinsenbacher at Porters which, relates, not only to Porters but all of the ski fields in mid-canterbury and beyond. HERE IT IS. Oh, and their 'Back in the Day' video about the NEW SNOWBOARDING FAD in NZ is worth a look too.

EVENTS
Friday: Central Plateau Ski Champs at Whakapapa.
Saturday: Haensli Cup at Whakapapa, The Skidoo Hill Climb at Roundhill and, the R & R Sport Freeheel Fun Weekend at Broken River.

Now in its fifth year the Junior Big Mtn CHILL Series gives young kiwi big mountain rippers a stepping stone and valuable experience to open competitions like the K2 Big Mtn CHILL Series! Based on performance CHILL has Wild Cards that are invited to compete with the big boys and girls at the K2 Big Mtn CHILL Series. This years competition is hosted by Craigieburn Valley. The event is scheduled for Saturday the 16th of July, Sunday the 17th is acting as a weather day and Friday the 15th is a ski/arriving day. All participants are welcome to come up, ski/snowboard and inspect the terrain on Friday.

Get out there and enjoy this weekend!!
