Jossi Wells Wins London Freeze
Jossi Wells took out top prize at the London Freeze event on the weekend, earning himself some solid prize money and more importantly boosting his confidence for the up coming season of competitions.
The London Freeze is part of the growing pre-season City-Big-Air events which are popping up all around Europe at this time of year. Jossi's jet setting lifestyle has seen him take a 2nd at Freestyle CH in Zurich 4 weeks ago, then return to NZ for a 2 week training camp at Cardrona. Then back to Europe last week for the premiere of Winter of Wells the movie and on to London to compete again.
Jossi qualified in 3rd place for the finals of the London big air to go through to the head-to-head knockout stages of the event. Here he knocked out Frenchman Jeremy Pancras in the first round, only to come up against good friend and winner of Freestyle CH, Elias Ambuhl in round 2 but the Kiwi boy came through taking Elias out to progress to the 4 man final.
The finalists were, Jossi, PK Hunder, Oscar Sherlin and Ole Mustad. It was a 2 jump final with best score counting; after the first jump Sherlin was leading with a solid switch dub 12 from PK in second with a switch 12, Jossi was in third after reverting his trick on landing and Mustad last failing to land his trick.
Both Sherlin and Hunder landed their tricks in round 2 but failed to up their scores. With the pressure on Jossi stepped up and landed a perfect Switch Dub 10 safety, it was enough to impress the judges and they gave him the nod over Sherlin's first round effort. Last man to drop was Mustad but again he failed to land his trick giving Mr.Wells his first city big air win.
