Shelly Gotlieb through to Slopestyle Finals at World Snowboard Championships
Oslo, Norway (17 February 2012) – Shelly Gotlieb has advanced through to the finals at the World Snowboard Championships in Oslo, Norway while teammate Rebecca Torr just misses the cut.
"Shelly played the game in semi-finals and made it through to finals with a safe but smart performance," said Tom Willmott, NZ's Head Park and Pipe Coach.
Torr landed her first run in the first heat placing fifth, but could not improve and had to wait for the outcome of heat 2 to determine if she would progress to the 10-women finals.
"Shelly who was second to last to drop in heat 2 knew what she needed to do, and was conservative but solid in her first run after a less than ideal training session prior to the judged runs," said Willmott. "She used the next two runs to prepare for finals, landing consistent backflips on the second jump and hanging on to 10th position overall. Unfortunately Possum was bumped down to 11th, and did not make finals."
"We're off to watch Terje Haakonsen and friends challenge for a new world record in the quarterpipe at the Holmenkollen ski jump stadium tonight, and will be gearing up for Bex's final in the Halfpipe on Saturday and Shelly's final in Slopestyle on Sunday (Central European Time)."
