Blue Sky Beautiful

The sun is shining and the sky is blue on the day after a blizzard, what more can we ask for! Short of winning a million dollars in the lottery, today is up there with some of the best things ever. Plus this extra bit of snow will help make Snovember: The Remix that much better with Turoa staying open until the 8th of November.

Get up there, have fun and check out the great sale at the Vertical retail stores at both Turoa and Whakapapa. They have a great selection of gear to get you out on the slopes and have new stock arriving all the time.

Blizzard conditions - Peak to Powderkeg postponed

Both Whakapapa and Turoa are closed today. Blizzard conditions on the Upper Mountain with high winds on the Lower Mountain. The forecast is looking more favourable for the next two or three days.

The Peak to the Powderkeg will run with exactly the same details next Saturday.  Also next Saturday will be Mt Ruapehu's first ever Pond Skim, it will be hilarious fun so plan your weekend and get to Mt Ruapehu to watch some brave people get wet!

9th October 2009

More snow on its way.

Whakapapa's more the place to be today as Turoa's suffering from high winds. It looks like there's more snow on the way over the next couple of days. Another October pow day could be on its way. Definitely worth hanging out for it's anything like the deep dry powder fun of the last couple of days.

8th October 2009

Another great morning but get up here early.

There's thin cloud hanging over us this morning but everything's open on both sides of the mountain and there's still freshies to be had so it's pretty darn good up here. The forecast is for the wind to come up this afternoon so get up here now and enjoy. It looks like we'll get even MORE snow over the next couple of days!!

7th October 2009

It's happening! We're so excited! Possibly THE day of the season!!

After 3 days of heavy snow freshies day is here! Skiers on Whakapapa's lower mountain got the first of it yesterday and today Turoa is open with cloud forecast to clear and avalanche work complete on all lifts except the Jumbo and High Noon Express (we're working on those right now!). This could well be the best day of the season. Is this really October?!

6th October 2009

Did we mention snow?

Yup, it just started snowing in Ohakune again. Third day in a row! Whakapapa lower mountain is open today but the Turoa die-hards will have to wait one more day for their freshies. This is going to be epic!!

5th October 2009

Snow, Snow and More Snow

Spring has decided to pack it in for a few days holiday and has left us with a Blizzard. Turoa and Whakapapa are closed today due to the weather. When it clears there should be a nice collection of new powder to ride! Be careful out on the roads as there are closures for a number of highways in the area. Drive to the conditions and keep safe so you can get up and enjoy it when the weather clears.
