Twenty-two-year-old Queenstown skier Tim Cafe’s world Super G ranking of 240 has elevated him to the New Zealand National Ski Team along with Alexandra McGlinn, aged 17 of Team Hutt, whose top world junior ranking has also gained her selection to the team.

The pair join Ben Griffin of Ohakune on the National Ski Team.

Both Griffin and Cafe have now met the discretionary criteria putting them on the shortlist for selection for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. The Winter Olympics team will be announced by the New Zealand Olympic Committee in mid January.

McGlinn holds world rankings by age of Super Combi 31, Giant Slalom 41, Super G 49 and Slalom 110.

Ski Racing New Zealand (SRNZ) General Manager James Lazor is delighted with the performances of both Cafe and McGlinn which has led to their inclusion on the national squad.

"They have worked hard to achieve the selection criteria and we are looking forward to some good results from them during the Northern Hemisphere season."

McGlinn has also been selected to SRNZ's 2010 FIS World Junior Ski Championships Team to compete in the Mount Blanc region in France from February 1 -6.

"The World Championships feature the world's top 16-19-year-olds and the experience will be invaluable for her giving her the opportunity to compete at a top level event in world class field," says Lazor.

"Allie is our only representative competing at the World Championships and it will provide an insight into the sort of age group competition she is up against internationally."

Twenty young skiers have been selected to SRNZ's 2010 International Children's Team and will compete at several events during the Northern Hemisphere season including the Topolino Cup in Italy and the Whistler Cup in Canada.

"This group of talented young athletes deserves the chance to represent New Zealand and compete after solid performances during the Southern Hemisphere season.

Through the International Children's events we will be able to benchmark them against the best athletes of their age in the world."

The International Children's Team is:

Elizabeth Reid, Richard McLaughlin, Mathew Nicholson, Hamish Garrick (Queenstown Alpine Ski Team); Rosie Smith, Chelsea Wallace, Piera Hudson, Sophie Corser, Sam Andrews (Cardrona High Performance Centre); River Jones Gardner, Jamie Green, Harry Izard Price, John Knowles, Tai Juneau, (Ruapehu Sports); Ben Loeffen-Gallagher, James O'Donoghue, Nicholas Gemmell, Sam Bushell, Anastasia Morrison, Eliza Grigg (Team Hutt).
