The heli-accessed finals which were supposed to take place today have been postponed due to heavy snow which is expected to continue for the next few days.
The qualifying day was grey and smooth for the competitors who took to Revelstoke Mountain Resort's (RMR) North Bowl-with its ridge lauded by many as "wide-open" with plenty of lines to choose from.
For the finals, the competitors will be taken by helicopter to an untouched area just outside of RMR to compete for the top spots on the Subaru Freeskiing World Tour.
"Tomorrow's venue is kind of like skiing in Alaska. It's untouched, easier to pick airs - an athlete's dream... best part, is that it hasn't been skied. It's truly fresh powder skiing," commented Revelstoke's Ski Patrol Director, Joe Lammers.
"Tomorrow's comp site will blow away even those competitors who have ripped peaks around the globe."
The Subaru Freeskiing World Tour is the largest and longest running competitive big mountain freeskiing tour in the history of the sport, featuring athletes from all over the world and over $100,000 in prize money.
The world-class athlete roster includes 2009 Subaru FWT overall champion Julien Lopez, South American Freeskiing Championships winners Chopo Diaz and Jacqui Edgerly, Cliff Bennett, Mathieu Gagnon, Luke Nelson, Arne Backstrom, and Claudia Bovier, profiled in Powder Magazine' s Oct. 2009 issue as one of skiing's most well-rounded and promising female skiers.
Athlete registration for the qualifying event sold out in less than seven minutes.
